ADU township is located in the northeast of Xuanwei City, 84 kilometers away from the city center. In 1986, it was listed as a poverty-stricken Township by Qujing City; in 1995, it was listed as a poverty alleviation Township by the provincial government; in 2001, it was listed as one of the 20 most remote ethnic poverty-stricken townships in Yunnan Province. The township governs 12 villager committees, including guxing, ADU, jiangpeng, Tongxing, Shidu, Heqing, Lishu, zengping, Yinchang, Faji, Dazuo, Rongsheng, among which Faji village is a minority village; it governs 60 villager groups and 171 natural villages.
