Sanyuan Yi Miao Bai Township, Dafang County, Guizhou Province, is 37 kilometers away from the county seat, with a total area of 93.68 square kilometers, 22345 mu of arable land and 56000 mu of barren hills and slopes. It has jurisdiction over 8 administrative villages, 76 villager groups, 592 households and 16855 people. There are nine ethnic groups, including Han, Yi, Miao, Bai, Mongolian, Buyi and Gelao, among which the ethnic minorities account for 62.3% of the total.
In the territory of high mountains and deep valleys, ravines crisscross. The average altitude is 1400 meters, the annual average temperature is 15 degrees, and the frost free period is 250 days. As there are many grass slopes, it is suitable for the development of animal husbandry. The main products are corn, wheat and potato. Flue cured tobacco is the pillar industry of the township, and Sanyuan township is rich in tourism resources.

Name and origin
Because the Township People's government was originally located in Sanyuan, it was later simplified to Sanyuan.
Evolution of administrative districts
In September 1950, it belonged to nine districts.
In April 1953, Sanyuan township was established.
In September 1958, Sanyuan township was transformed into commune; in November, Sanyuan management area was transformed.
In March 1963, Sanyuan commune was restored.
In 1984, Sanyuan commune was changed into Sanyuan Miao Yi township.
In December 1991, Minle, cuoba and Sanyuan townships were merged to establish Sanyuan Yi, Miao and Bai townships.
