Wapumo Village

Wapumo township is located in the southeast of Yuexi County, 39 kilometers away from the county. It is adjacent to Ersai Township in the East, Xide County in the south, and sugu Township in the northwest. It is a typical mountainous Yi nationality gathering Township, with an average altitude of 2700 meters and an area of 90.2 square kilometers, including 2520.2 mu of cultivated land and an annual average temperature of 19 ℃. By the end of 2007, the township had jurisdiction over 13 villager groups in five villages, namely wapumo, juemo, Yiga, Hezuo Ji and muniujue, with a total number of 620 households and 3142 people. Each year, 8900 pigs, cattle, sheep and horses were sold. There is a central school and a health center in the township.

Flood disaster in 2009

At 7:20 p.m. on June 19, a torrential rain suddenly fell in wapumo township of Yuexi County, which lasted for more than 10 hours. The torrential rain caused a flood disaster in wapumo township.

The five villages in the township suffered from different degrees of disasters: 750 mu of potato, corn, buckwheat and other crops were destroyed, 5 houses were destroyed, 33 farmers and 164 people were affected, and the township government, Township Central School, township health center, roads, bridges and other infrastructure in the township suffered from different degrees of disasters. The disaster caused direct economic losses of 3.84 million yuan.
