In the Qing Dynasty, Gaoping Miao Township belonged to xiangbajia, Dingbian township (zhiluomurouchang), Gaoxian county. In 1929, Muxiang township was set up, which was subordinate to Gaoxian county. In 1935, Muxiang Lianbao was set up, which was under the jurisdiction of the third district of Gaoxian county. In 1940, the township was reestablished and renamed Jixiang township.
