Tongshi town
Tongshi Town, subordinate to Wuzhishan City, Hainan Province, is located in the south of Wuzhishan. It is adjacent to Maoyang Town, Fanyang town and Shuiman Township in the north, maodao Township in the west, Changhao Township in the South and Nansheng town in the East, with a total administrative area of 325 square kilometers. By 2020, the total population of Tongshi town is 49438.
Tongshi town was called tongshidong in ancient times, and later evolved into Tongshi Township, Tongshi town and Tongshi city. In 2002, Hongshan Township and Chongshan town merged to form Chongshan town. In 2012, Chongshan town was renamed Tongshi town. In 2020, Tongshi town governs 4 communities and 16 administrative villages.

Historical evolution
"Tongshi" is the translation of Chinese characters in Li language. The Li language "Tongshi" refers to the contiguous fields in the valley. It was called tongshidong in ancient times, and later evolved into Tongshi Township, Tongshi town and Tongshi city. From ancient times to the period of the Republic of China, there was a distinctive social organization, Dong, in the Li society of Tongshi area.
In 1887, Feng Zicai, a famous general and governor of Guangxi, went to the Wuzhishan area to "Fu Li". He took the South Shenghe (Tongshi River) as the boundary of tongshidong district. The northeast area of tongshidong district was under the jurisdiction of Ding'an County, and the Henan area was under the jurisdiction of Kuaiya county (now Sanya City).
In March of 1935, Baoting County, Baisha County and Ledong County were established. In the same year, Tongshi township was established, which is subordinate to the Second District of Baisha County.
In 1947, Tongshi Township People's government was established.
In 1948, it was under the jurisdiction of Baoting county.
In 1950, the people's Government of Tongshi Township, Baoting county was established.
In July 1953, Hainan Li and Miao Autonomous Region moved to Tongshi from Baoyou Town, Ledong County, and Tongshi became the capital of the autonomous region.
In October 1955, the autonomous region was changed into an autonomous prefecture, and Tongshi was the capital of the Autonomous Prefecture.
In December 1956, Tongshi Township, Fujian Township and Fu'an Township were merged into Tongshi town.
In March 1958, Tongshi Town, Fujian Township, Fu'an Township, welfare Township and Fansai Township were merged into Tongshi town.
In November 1963, the Hongqi commune in Tongshi Town, Baoting county was under the direct leadership of Hainan Li and Miao Autonomous Prefecture.
On October 28, 1966, Tongshi town was renamed Hongqi Town.
On May 8, 1980, the people's Government of Tongshi town was restored; in October of the same year, the red flag commune was abolished and the establishment of Hongqi (Tongshi) town was retained.
On February 15, 1982, Hongqi Town was changed into Tongshi Town, which was directly under the central government of Hainan Li and Miao Autonomous Prefecture.
On June 12, 1986, the State Council approved the establishment of Tongshi city (county level), with Changhao, Hongshan, nanshang and maodao districts in Baoting County, Wuzhishan and Maoyang districts in Qiongzhong County, Fanyang District in Ledong County and Tongshi town directly under the central government of Hainan Li and Miao Autonomous Prefecture as the administrative regions.
In January 1987, Tongshi town was renamed Chongshan sub district office.
In March 1993, Chongshan sub district office was renamed as Chongshan Town, which mainly administers 12 village committees in the suburb of Wuzhishan.
On July 5, 2001, Tongshi city was renamed Wuzhishan City, and Chongshan town was under the jurisdiction of Wuzhishan City.
In July 2002, Hongshan Township and Chongshan town merged to form Chongshan town.
In April 2012, Chongshan town was renamed Tongshi Town, under the jurisdiction of Wuzhishan City.

Tongshi town is surrounded by mountains. With Tongshi town as the center, the terrain gradually increases. According to the records of Tongshi City annals, there are seven mountains above 500 meters above sea level in Tongshi Town, among which shengmaoling and atuoling are both above 1000 meters above sea level. From the perspective of topography, the terrain on both sides of Nansheng river near the town center is relatively flat, and the north and South are mostly mountainous.

The population of Miao and other nationalities is relatively small.

Before 1952, there were only mountain roads in Tongshi town. In 1952, Haiyu middle line highway (National Highway g224) began to be designed and constructed. It took two years to complete the construction of Haiyu middle line highway, forming an important trunk highway with Tongshi town as the main node, connecting Wuzhishan City, Haikou City and Sanya City. After 1958, Tongshi Baoting, Lingshui, Ledong and other highways were successively built. In 2019, all county roads and township roads in Tongshi town will be connected with Haiyu middle line highway, forming a radial road network structure.
