Songkou Town, subordinate to Meixian District, Meizhou City, Guangdong Province, is located at the junction of Guangdong, Fujian and Jiangxi provinces, in the northeast of Meixian district. The town government is located in Songkou sikeng New District, 48.1 km away from Meixian District People's government. It is adjacent to Qingxi Town of Dapu County in the East, Songshan Mountain of Baidu town in the west, Yingya town of Dapu county and Yanyang town of Meixian District in the south, Taoyao town and Longwen town in the north, with a total area of 328.4 square kilometers. By the end of 2018, 64811 people had registered residence in Song Kou Town. As of June 2020, Songkou town has 41 administrative villages and 5 communities.
Since the modern times, the Hakka people in Guangdong, Fujian and Jiangxi have been the first stop of the Hakka people in the Southeast Asia. They are the first Chinese Hakka immigrants to open up the "India Ocean Road". They have the only "China (Meizhou) immigration Memorial square" in China Chinese mainland. Historical evolution
Songkou town is one of the four ancient towns in the south of the five ridges. The history of Songkou can be traced back to the Western Jin Dynasty. It was named Dongshe village at that time, and later renamed Meikou. It was named Songkou town in the third year of Qianhe in the Southern Han Dynasty (945).
Since the Song Dynasty, the ancestors of Songkou's surnames have moved here from Fujian and Jiangxi, and developed and built a business distribution center of Fujian, Guangdong and Jiangxi.
At the beginning of the Song Dynasty, especially at the end of the Qing Dynasty and the beginning of the Republic of China, Songkou became an important post station for the overseas migration of Meizhou, Fujian, Guangdong and Jiangxi Hakkas, the birthplace of the "maritime Silk Road" for overseas Chinese, and the first port of the "Indian Ocean Road" for Hakkas.
In 1994, Songbei Township and Songkou town merged into Songkou town.

The origin of the name

An important Hakka town
The town of song Kou is a Hakka Town, and one of the first places where Hakka ancestors moved southward.
