Huiyuan Yao nationality township is located in the west of Lanshan County in the mountains. It is adjacent to Suo town in the south, Jiuyi Yao nationality township and Wanjing town in Ningyuan County in the west, and Litou Yao nationality township in the north. The township government is 28 kilometers away from tafeng town. The township has a total area of 50.77 square kilometers (2017), 128.1 hectares of arable land, 4600 hectares of forest land and 1840 people (2017).

Historical evolution
The township is named after the merger of Dayuan and Xiaoyuan in 1957. In the early days of liberation, Dayuan belonged to kuilong township. Dayuan township was established in May 1956. In January 1957, Dayuan and Xiaoyuan (today's plowshares) merged into Huiyuan Yao township. Hongqi people's commune was established in Huiyuan in September 1958, and Huiyuan Yao people's commune was changed in 1961 (plowshares were under the jurisdiction of Zhushi commune). It was changed to Huiyuan Yao nationality township in 1984.

In 2005, under the leadership of the County Federation of overseas Chinese, the township established Guangming Xinxin hope primary school in connection with the Xinxin Education Foundation of the United States, which greatly changed the backwardness of education in the township. According to statistics, in the past two years, the township has introduced and invested 300000 yuan in education funds to build a hope primary school and renovate a dilapidated building, so that all 150 school-age children in the township go to school and no one drops out.
