Gaoqiang Township, belonging to Yangyuan County, Zhangjiakou City, Hebei Province, is located in the northeast of Yangyuan County, adjacent to Xuanhua District in the East, huashaoying town in the south, Sanmafang Township in the west, Tianzhen county and Huai'an County in Shanxi Province in the northwest and North. In September 1958, Gaoqiang Township belonged to huashaoying commune; in March 1984, it was changed from Gaoqiang commune to Gaoqiang township. By the end of 2018, the registered residence population of the high walled township was 16095. As of June 2020, Gaoqiang village has jurisdiction over 27 administrative villages, and the Township People's government is stationed in Gaoqiang village.

History of construction
In September 1958, Gaoqiang Township belonged to huashaoying commune.
In May 1961, Conghua Shaoying commune emerged and Gaoqiang commune was established.
In March 1984, Gaoqiang commune was changed into Gaoqiang township.
In January 1996, Jinjiazhuang township was merged into Gaoqiang township.
