Gaoqiang Township, belonging to Yangyuan County, Zhangjiakou City, Hebei Province, is located in the northeast of Yangyuan County, adjacent to Xuanhua District in the East, huashaoying town in the south, Sanmafang Township in the west, Tianzhen county and Huai'an County in Shanxi Province in the northwest and North. In September 1958, Gaoqiang Township belonged to huashaoying commune; in March 1984, it was changed from Gaoqiang commune to Gaoqiang township. In September 1958, Gaoqiang Township belonged to huashaoying commune.

In May 1961, Conghua Shaoying commune emerged and Gaoqiang commune was established.
