Shiligang site

Shiligang site, located in Lixian County, Changde City, Hunan Province, is an ancient site of the Paleolithic age. In May 2013, it was approved and announced as the seventh batch of national key cultural relics protection units by the State Council. The discovery of cultural relics covers an area of about 40000 square meters. It is the largest site in Hunan Province and even in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River before the Neolithic age. It is also of great significance to explore the origin of human settlements. There are four types of soil: gravel, chert, quartz and hematite. There are many kinds of stone tools, such as gravel, flint and quartz. The function of hematite is unknown, which may be related to some religious customs of making stone tools.

Jijiaocheng site

located in Lixian County, Changde City, Hunan Province, it is an ancient site of Neolithic age. The wall is rammed with yellow clay, with obvious ramming layer, and the residual height is 2-3 meters. There are openings on each side of the city, which should be the gate site. Two beacon towers were built outside the Northeast gate. There are moats outside, and many ponds and low-lying fields of different sizes are distributed outside the ancient city. It is found that there are Longshan cultural relics, gray coarse pottery with sand. The relationship between wall and stratum can be divided into seven layers. Jijiaocheng has rich cultural connotation and high historical and cultural value. This large settlement site provides physical evidence for the study of the development of primitive society and the origin of the country. in may 2013, it was approved as the seventh batch of national key cultural relics protection units by the State Council. there are still walls and gullies here. It is said that some immortals built the city at night and the chickens crowed, so it is called the city of chickens. The city is round, 480 meters long from east to west and 460 meters wide from north to south, with a total area of 220000 square meters. There are artificial rivers in the northwest and natural rivers in the southeast. About 1 km away from the two gates in the northeast, a beacon tower was built respectively, with a remnant height of 2-4 meters. In the early years of investigation, Longshan cultural relics were found in the city, including gray coarse pottery with sand, large jar, open statue and so on. In 1997, the pottery pieces of Longshan period were found in the trench of Xicheng wall. Experts believe that this is an ancient city in the middle and late period of Qujialing culture (5200-4000 years ago), which was used to Longshan period in succession. In 1998, 190 square meters were excavated. The wall strata relationship can be divided into seven layers. At the bottom layer, a residential site of late Qujialing culture was found. The column holes are dense and small, with a diameter of 15-20 cm and a depth of 20-30 cm.
