Geleche town is a town level administrative unit under the jurisdiction of Laifeng County, Enshi City, Hubei Province. It is located in the northwest of Laifeng County, bordering Sanhu Township in the East, Jiusi Township in the south, Dahe Town in the West and Xianfeng County in the north. It has a large land area. The town government is 26 kilometers away from Laifeng County. Laigao Road (Laifeng Gaoshan) runs through the hinterland, and gegao Road (Gele Gaodong) and Gejiu Road (Gele Jiusi) run through the territory. There are 98 kilometers of roads with an area of 116.27 square kilometers (2017). In January 2014, Geleche township was removed from the township and built into a town.

The place name originated in the Ming Dynasty. There was a ferocious River in the mountains. People used the river to make water carts for rice milling. When rice is milled, the water wheel makes the sound of "Gala", which is later translated into "Gele" in minority languages, hence the name "Gele". In 1975, PA Ping, Yan Tang, Tian Tian Ping, ban Li Ping, Bai Guo Shu in former Si district and Zhen Ping, Guang Ming, Gao Chao, Wen Ping, Tai Ping, Gu Jia forest farm in Sanhu district were divided into Gele commune. In 1984, it was changed to gellerche district. In 1996, it was replaced by Geleche Township, with an area of 115.8 square kilometers and a population of 22000. It has 18 administrative villages: yanbanshang, baozigou, Sangshuping, Chenjiagou, Zhengnan, Zhenping, dadilang, sanfanggou, changtaiping, tongmala, Shentuo, gujiashan, tujiazhai, Paping, banliping, Baiguoyuan, Yantang and tiantianping. In 2004, the township government was stationed in Geleche, with a population of 20000 and an area of 116.8 square kilometers. It has jurisdiction over a neighborhood committee in Geleche and 17 administrative villages in Yanban, baozigou, Chenjiagou, Zhennan, Zhengping, Sangshuping, dadilang, sanfanggou, tujiazhai, gujiashan, Paping, Yantang, tiantianping, banliping, Baiguo, Tongma and changtaiping.
