Jiukou town
Jiukou town belongs to Zhongxiang City, Hubei Province. It is located at the southernmost end of Zhongxiang City and the East Bank of Hanjiang River. It is connected with Qujialing administrative district and Jingshan County in the East, Changtan town and Chaihu town in Zhongxiang in the northeast and northwest, Tianmen City in the South and Shayang County across the river in the southwest.
Jiukou was called chengjiu in ancient times. In 470, chengjiu was transferred to Changshou county (now Zhongxiang). In Yuan Dynasty, it was changed into jiukou. In Ming Dynasty, jiukou post was set up. In Qing Dynasty, it was called jiukou town. Jiukou district was established at the beginning of the founding of new China. It was changed into the seventh district in 1950. After the restoration of jiukou District in 1958, it was changed into jiukou people's commune. In 1987, jiukou town was re established. In 2001, Luoji town was abolished and merged into jiukou town.
Jiukou town has a total area of 248.71 square kilometers (2017). Jiukou town is a "national key town" and an important producing area of sand pear in Hubei Province. On July 24, 2019, jiukou town was selected into the list of national strong agricultural towns in 2019.
Historical evolution
Jiukou town has a long history, named chengjiu at the end of the spring and Autumn period. In the 14th year of King Jing of Zhou (506 BC), Wu Zixu went to Chu, and King Zhao of Chu fled with the state, which was the river crossing chengjiu. in the Eastern Han Dynasty, chengjiu belonged to jingling county (today's Men county). In the Liu Song period of the Southern Dynasty, chengjiu was under the jurisdiction of Changshou county (Zhongxiang county); in 470 A.D., chengjiu was under the jurisdiction of Changshou county. In the Sui, Tang and Song Dynasties, chengjiu belonged to Changshou county. in the Yuan Dynasty, it was changed from old to old. In the middle of Ming Dynasty, the Hanjiang River embankment was built in jiukou, which was blocked and diverted to Tianmen river. Jiukou was named jiukou Posthouse. it was called jiukou town in Qing Dynasty and was built by water conservancy Tongzhi. in the early years of the Republic of China, jiukou was set up as a county assistant. In 1932, it was the second district office. During the Anti Japanese War, jiukou was occupied by the Japanese puppets. The KMT Zhongxiang county government moved to baojiafan in the north of the city and set up two regions, the north and the south. Jiukou belonged to the south. Because it was unable to exercise its functions and powers, the Japanese puppets ruled jiukou in 1941 and set up a Japanese puppet jiukou County in jiukou. In August 1945, the Japanese army surrendered. In September, the KMT Zhongxiang county government returned the county seat and protected the township, calling jiukou a town under the jurisdiction of the county. In July 1949, Zhongxiang county government was established; in the same month, Jiukou district was established. In December 1950, Jiukou district was renamed the seventh district of Zhongxiang county. In January 1954, it was renamed Jiukou district. In February 1956, Xuji Township, Luoji Township and Shagang Township, which were originally under the jurisdiction of Changtan District, were merged to establish Luoji Township, a city directly under the leadership of the county; in June of the same year, Jiukou district was abolished and a rural work guidance group was established. In January 1958, Jiukou district was restored; in September of the same year, Jiukou district was abolished and jiukou people's commune was established in Zhongxiang County; in the same month, Luoji Township directly under the county was abolished and its administrative area was included in jiukou people's commune, and Xiangdong Township on the East Bank of Hanjiang River under the jurisdiction of former Shipai district was included in jiukou people's commune. In May 1961, jiukou people's commune was abolished and renamed Jiukou district. on November 25, 1975, Zhongxiang County withdrew the district and merged the commune, abolished jiukou District, and established jiukou people's Commune and Luoji people's commune. In March 1984, Zhongxiang county was divided into districts (towns) and jiukou people's commune. Jiukou district and towns under the jurisdiction of Jiukou county were established. Luoji people's commune was abolished and its administrative region was merged into Jiukou district. In October 1987, Jiukou district was abolished and jiukou town and Luoji Township were established. In 1990, Luoji township was abolished and Luoji town was established. In 2001, Luoji town was abolished and its administrative region was merged into jiukou town.
