Dengcheng town is located in the northwest of Shangshui County, adjacent to zhouluo highway in the south, facing Xihua county across the Shahe River in the north, 15 km from Zhoukou and Shangshui in the East and Southeast, and 45 km from Luohe in the west, with a total area of 69.2 square kilometers (2017). During the Three Kingdoms period, Wei general Deng AI stationed troops here, so it was named Deng Cheng.

On July 28, 2017, Dengcheng town was selected as the second batch of small towns with Chinese characteristics.
