Baogong temple town

Baogongmiao township is located 40 kilometers south of Suiyang district. Baogongmiao commune was established in 1977 and changed to township in 1983. It covers an area of 51.9 square kilometers (2017) and has a population of 35346 (2017).

Historical records

Tang and Song Dynasties, Suiyang District baogongmiao Township wangjiaji. In 1046 A.D., there was a severe drought. From Tokyo (Kaifeng) to Nanjing (Shangqiu) along the Bianhe River, there was no grain harvest. Bao Zheng, who loved the people like a son, went deep into the people to observe the situation of the people. Yongding Township, the junction of the four provinces in Songcheng (Shangqiu), suffered the most serious disaster. The "hungry people" stopped their sedan chairs and called for Bao Zheng's help. Bao Zheng asked the rich families and officials in all counties to open warehouses and release grain to relieve the victims. Later, he executed the "nanbatian", who oppressed the people and committed heinous crimes, in accordance with the law, and exempted taxes in the year of the disaster. In the seventh year of the Qing Dynasty, Bao Zheng was promoted from the fifth grade to the third grade, and his red robe changed into purple robe. Song city (Shangqiu) is known as "Baogong Temple" because "the people feel their virtue and voluntarily donate money and goods, and set up a temple at the bridge to worship". Later, Baogong Temple became a local name, which has a history of more than 900 years.

Location context

It is adjacent to Zaoji town of Luyi County in the south, laowangji town of Zhecheng County in the west, Gaoxin town in the north, Songji town in the East, Wuqiang town in the northeast, Dasha River running through the north and south. Baogongmiao village committee, the seat of township government, has 20 administrative villages, 80 natural villages and 74 villager groups. Shanglu road in the west of baogongmiao Township passes through the township. It is 5km away from national highway 105 in the East and runs through the East and west by a road.

Economic situation

In an important grain and cotton producing area, there is a large water conservancy project baogongmiao sluice on Dasha River. Zhulou village, baogongmiao Township, used to be a famous watermelon Town, is now a large-scale vegetable production base in Shangqiu City.
