Fanggang town

Fanggang town is located in Longgang District, Yuzhou City, Henan Province, reaching Sanfeng mountain in the South and Funiu Mountain in the West. It is adjacent to Liangbei town and Huolong town in the East and North, and Hongchang town and Wenshu town in the South and West. It covers an area of 44 square kilometers.

In July 2020, it won the honorary title of national health Township from 2017 to 2019.

The origin of place names

According to historical records, Lei, the tenth grandson of Shennong family and the eldest son of emperor Yuwang, helped the Yellow Emperor to attack Chiyou. He was awarded the capital Fangshan for his meritorious service before he got the surname Fang. Some of his descendants moved from the Fengdi mountain to the lower hill and settled down in the village, named fangjiagang for short.

Historical evolution

Fanggang town has a long history and is the ancestral home of the Kuang family of the Chinese people in the world. According to historical records, Lei, the tenth grandson of Shennong and the eldest son of emperor Yuwang, helped the Yellow Emperor to attack Chiyou. He was awarded the capital Fangshan for his meritorious service and got the surname Fang. Later generations gathered their families to settle down on the hill below and named Fang Jiagang, or Fang Gang for short. In Ming Dynasty, it belonged to Linglong capital Fucheng Li, in Qing Dynasty, it belonged to Yirang Li, and in the Republic of China, it set up Fanggang. After the founding of new China in 1948, the second district was set up. In 1958, it belonged to (Huolong) 38 people's commune. In 1968, it belonged to Manjusri people's Commune and Huolong people's commune. In 1977, it established Fanggang people's commune. In 1984, it was changed into Fanggang township. In September 2012, it was approved by the provincial government to withdraw the township and build a town.

Scenic Spots and Historical Sites

Fanggang town has rich historical and cultural resources. According to legend, Dayu mountain in the western part of the territory is the location of the commander-in-chief of Dayu's flood control, so Dayu mountain got its name. According to historical records, in order to commemorate Dayu's achievements in flood control, later generations built a temple on the mountain as early as the Jiazi year of Emperor Wen of the Han Dynasty (177 BC) and rebuilt it in successive dynasties. The inscription in the Song Dynasty is recorded as "Yuwang Temple".

"Yuwang Temple" is also called "Lawang Temple". It is said that in ancient times, there was a vast ocean here, and the sea eye was overflowing with water. Dayu moved to this mountain to live in the sea eye and subdue the flood. In memory of Dayu's powerful flood control, God pulled a hall from other places. It was said that in the early morning, every cow was too tired to fall on the ground and was sweating. The owner thought that the cow was ill, so he touched his mouth with his hand and took out a big one Yuanbao was given by God with niula temple. Later, it was discovered that a temple rose on the flat land of the mountain, so it was also called "Lawang Temple". The old people all remember that in the east of Yuwang temple, in the past, every summer and rainy season, the mountain spring erupted on the hillside. It is said that it was a clear spring from the crack of the sea eye. At the east end of Xilu village, there is a well for the whole village to eat. Legend has opened up the sea eye vein. Later, the world continued to expand and build the grand Yuwang temple. Before the cultural revolution, it was the site of xilucun middle school. The Cultural Revolution "Yuwang Temple" has been destroyed. After reconstruction by Cui Guangtao and others, Yuwang temple has been built in the same way. There are three new halls, the front and back, the main hall and the middle hall, for gods such as king Yu, King Yao, Bodhisattva and grandmother. On the first and the fifteenth day of each month, there are many cigarettes and pilgrims.

On May 4, 2010, Fanggang town held the first public memorial ceremony for Dayu; on April 29, 2012, Fanggang town held another public memorial ceremony for Dayu at Yuwang temple in Dayu mountain, and unveiled the statue of Yuwang.

Town construction
