In 1961, zhongkou commune was established. In 1984, it was changed into zhongkou township. As of June 2020, zhongkou township has jurisdiction over 11 administrative villages, and the Township People's government is stationed at No. 45 Xingyuan, zhongkou village. Among them, Kou township is the planting site of Laishui walnut, a national geographical indication product of China.
In 2011, the total output value of agriculture and industry of Kou township was 28.14 million yuan and 54.88 million yuan respectively, and the total fiscal revenue was 1.04 million yuan, an increase of 7% over the previous year.
