Tangkou Street

Tangkou street is located in the southwest of Jining City, Shandong Province, 16.2km away from the city center, under the jurisdiction of Shizhong District. Covering an area of 126 square kilometers, it governs 79 administrative villages with a population of 83191 (2010). National Highway 105, provincial highway 251 and Beijing Hangzhou Grand Canal pass through the territory. Rivers include Zhaowang River, Zhuzhao canal, Longgong River and Jiliang canal. Historical evolution

The town got its name from Tangkou village. Before the Ming Dynasty, the village was named Xu Guantun. In the early Ming Dynasty, the surnames of Liu, Wang, Ma and Du successively moved from Hongdong County, Shanxi Province. The name of the old village is still used. Later, because Zhao Wanghe broke his mouth here, and an official of the Tang family led his husband to gamble on it, the village was saved from the flood. The villagers appreciated the kindness of the official of the Tang family, so they changed the name of the village to tangjiakou as a memorial, later referred to as Tangkou town. In 1949, it belonged to the southwest of the third district of Jining County, and the Ninth District of Jiaxiang County after 1949. In 1956, it belonged to Jining County, and Tangkou commune was established in 1958. In 1984, it was renamed Tangkou Township, and the town was established in 1985. In 1997, it covers an area of 122 square kilometers and has a population of 84000.
