Daqindao Township belongs to Penglai District, Yantai City, Shandong Province. It is located in the north of Penglai District, the middle of Bohai Strait, the Bohai Sea in the West and the Yellow Sea in the East. It is 54 km away from Dalian City in Liaoning Province in the north and 52.84 km away from Penglai District in Shandong Province in the south. It is the farthest Township from the mainland in Shandong Province. With a total area of 6.76 square kilometers and a coastline of 14.55 kilometers, the island governs four administrative villages, including Dongcun, Beicun, Nancun and Xiaohao, with a total population of 4580.

Island legend

It is said that once upon a time, a poor fisherman from the South was fishing in the Bohai Sea. When he met with wind and waves, he anchored in Daqin island for shelter. After going to the island, he found a strange phenomenon on Daqin Island: groups of scorpions hold eggs and roll into balls on the island, and there are scorpions all over the mountains and fields. He thought that there were no scorpions in his hometown in the South (it is said that there were no scorpions in the south in ancient times). When he had nothing to do, he caught some scorpions and took them home. However, when he arrived in the south, someone paid a high price for them. As a result, the fisherman had an idea. He simply abandoned fishing and became a businessman. Instead, he became a scorpion trafficker and made a fortune in less than a year. Therefore, Daqin island is often called scorpion island. Historical evolution

As early as 6000-7000 years ago, human beings lived on the island. Four tombs and ancient buildings have been found at the Nanshan site in Dongcun and santiaogou site in Beicun since the Neolithic age. The Dongcun site is comparable to the Banpo site in Xi'an. More than a dozen ethnic groups with surnames migrated from Jiaodong in the middle of Kangxi and early Qianlong years, and the earliest immigrants came to the island nearly 300 years ago.

Before the Republic of China, Daqin island was under the jurisdiction of Penglai County, Dengzhou Prefecture. In 1958, it belonged to Changdao commune. In 1962, it established Qindao commune. In 1984, it established Qindao township. In 1985, it changed its name to daqindao township. In 1997, it covers an area of 6.4 square kilometers and has a population of 5000. It has jurisdiction over four administrative villages: Dongcun, Xiaohao village, Beicun and Nancun. In December 2000, the township of daqindao was abolished and the District Office of daqindao was set up in the administrative region of the former daqindao township. Beicun invested more than 60000 yuan to build a roadside flower bed, landscaped both sides of Yingbin Road, renovated the gate of the village committee, repainted and replaced the billboards on both sides, and renovated the street lamps. Nancun has invested more than 500000 yuan in the construction of two high-grade billboards, laid 5500 square meters of cement pavement, built green belts on both sides of Nancun dock Road, painted houses on both sides of Xiangyang Road, and replanted flowers and trees. In addition, 670 households in Dongcun are equipped with garbage cans to collect and transport garbage at fixed time. The township has organized six large-scale environmental sanitation rectification activities to clean up the white garbage and health dead corners around the village and along the road, and rectify the phenomenon of random stacking, building and construction in front and behind the houses. More than 800 times of manpower, 100 vehicles and 50 tons of garbage have been mobilized. Cultural sites

There are two ancient cultural sites in Daqin Island, namely Beicun site and Dongcun Zijingshan site. Beicun site is located in the southeast of Beicun, Daqin island. It is 110 meters long from east to west and 100 meters wide from north to south. There are three periods of cultural remains in the site. The lower level is equivalent to Dawenkou Culture, the middle level is Longshan culture, and the upper level is later than Longshan culture. Unearthed cultural relics include stone tools, bone ware and a large number of pottery. Dongcun site, located in the southeast of Dongcun, Daqin Island, belongs to the lower level of Zijingshan culture.

It is very suitable for the growth of sea cucumber, abalone, purple sea urchin, scallop and other marine treasures. In addition, daqindao township is the hometown of "China Xiaohao kelp" which is famous at home and abroad. The kelp culture in the township is nearly 3000 mu, with an annual output of 6700 tons of dried kelp. Now, the kelp series products of the township have entered the major shopping malls in the country and entered the international market, becoming a new economic growth point of the township.
