Huqiao town is located in the northwest border of Guangfeng District, Shangrao City, Jiangxi Province, adjacent to Danan in the East, Xiaxi in the south, Qinfeng Township, Xinzhou District in the west, Shaxi Town, Xinzhou District across the Xinjiang River, and Hufeng in the north. The total area is 45.13 square kilometers, of which 20.4% is cultivated land, 58% is forest land, 6.9% is water area, and 14.7% is roads, villages and others. Huqiao town has seven administrative villages and 125 villager groups, including Huqiao village, Tangtou village, Dutou village, Dongyang village, zhengcunwu village, Zhushi village and Liuyuan village, with a total of 65 natural villages and a permanent resident population of 20578 (2017).

Historical evolution

In Ming and Qing Dynasties, Liuyuan was the 34 capitals of Zhou'an Township, while Dongyang, Tangtou, Huqiao, zhengcunwu, zhushiwu and dashanwu were the 47 and 48 capitals of Yuyang township. In 1949, it was called Huqiao Township, with jurisdiction over 9 baos and 124 Jias. In the early days of liberation, it belonged to the third district. In April 1950, it was divided into Huqiao, Tangtou and Liantang townships, belonging to Danan district. In November 1951, it was divided into Huqiao, Liuyuan, Dutou, Tangtou and Dongyang, belonging to Huqiao district. In February 1952, Zhushi township was divided into four districts. In July 1956, it was merged into Huqiao Township and Tangtou township. In April 1957, the two townships were merged and named Huqiao Township, which is directly under the county. Lighthouse people's commune was established in November 1958. In March 1959, it was renamed Huqiao people's commune, belonging to Huqiao district. In October 1968, Pingyuan commune was abolished and three brigades, Xinmin, Tangwan and Pingyang, were included. In September 1984, the commune was withdrawn and the township was established. In September 1997, the township was set up.
