Tanbu town is located in the west of Wanzai County, Yichun City, Jiangxi Province, with a land area of 96.8 square kilometers. It governs 13 administrative villages, 1 community and 1 forest farm. The resident population was 43860 (2017). There are 25 party branches with 869 party members, including 625 rural Party members. Tanbu town is the birthplace of Wanzai Nuo dance. Since the Ming Dynasty, the style of Nuo dance has been popular in Tanbu, which has been passed down from generation to generation for more than 800 years. According to the records of Wanzai county annals, there were two Nuo temples, Shajiang bridge and Yinguo, in Tanbu of Wanzai in the Tongzhi period of the Qing Dynasty.

Nuo, a custom in ancient times, is mostly used to welcome gods and expel epidemic ghosts. Nuo dance is a dance that is performed during the Nuo ceremony. It has a long history. As early as in the Analects of Confucius, there is a record of "local people Nuo". It is a cultural treasure of the Chinese nation and is known as a living fossil in the history of dance. Nuo dance in Wanzai county began in the Yuan Dynasty and prevailed in the early Ming Dynasty, mainly in shajiangqiao town of Tanbu, Ma'anling town of Huangmao and Zhutan town of Zhutan.

Mr. Tanaka Ichi Cheng, an international expert in Nuo studies, Professor of Tokyo University and doctor of literature from the Institute of Oriental culture, once made a special trip to Chixi village, Tanbu Town, Wanzai to investigate Nuo dance, visited the Nuo Temple of shajiangqiao, watched Nuo dance performances and made live videos.
