Houcun Township

Houcun Township belongs to Yangqu County, Taiyuan City, Shanxi Province. Houcun township is located in the south of Yangqu County, adjacent to Shouyang in the East and the provincial capital of Nantong, 5km away from the county seat and 13km away from the provincial capital. It is the South Gate of Yangqu county. The township covers a total area of 88.21 square kilometers, with 48775 mu of arable land, 15 administrative villages, 43 natural villages and 9234 permanent residents (2017).

Basic information

Beitongpu railway, Yuantai expressway, Dayun highway and Shijiazhuang Taiyuan high speed railway run through the whole territory, and the traffic is very convenient. During the 11th Five Year Plan period, the Party committee and government of Houcun Township closely focused on the strategic goal of "stabilizing the township by agriculture, strengthening the township by industry, invigorating the township by tourism, and building the township by culture", seized the opportunity and made leapfrog development. The highest peak, Hanquan mountain, is 1760 meters above sea level. The central and western regions are flat and low-lying, with crisscross rivers. The Shengou River, which originates from Hanquan mountain, joins Yangxing River in Nuanquan Bay from east to west, and flows out of Longmen and into Fenhe River through Qinglong village. The climate is relatively warm, the annual average temperature is 8.5 ℃, the annual average precipitation is 460 mm, and the annual average frost free period is 159 days. Grain and oil crops are mainly millet, corn, sorghum and sunflower. In 1996, the total output of grain and oil was 7967 tons. The orchard covers an area of 17430 mu, and the fruit output reached 412000 kg in 1996. Grapes from shangyangzhai and xiayangzhai villages, jujubes from Shicheng village, dahongguo from wangxingping village and Baitao from Zhangba village used to be palace tributes in Qing Dynasty. It is one of the fruit producing areas with the longest history, the largest cultivation area and high yield in the county. Township enterprises include coking plant, automobile repair plant, smelting plant, calcining plant, gypsum plant, brick plant, etc. Mineral resources include gypsum, iron ore, coal mine, etc. Located in nanhou village, Shanxi Province, the substation is the first 500kV EHV and large capacity substation. In 1996, there were 3 junior middle schools, 30 primary schools, 12 kindergartens, 190 teachers, 3028 students, 1 township hospital, 20 village clinics, 40 medical staff and 1 veterinary station.
