Chihu town is located in Zhangpu County, Zhangzhou City, Fujian Province, adjacent to the Taiwan Strait in the East, between Xiamen and Shantou special economic zones, 45 kilometers away from Xiamen port.

Chihu town governs 13 administrative villages, 1 neighborhood committee and 2 town offices. In 2017, the administrative area was 9212 hectares, with a permanent population of 55896.

Historical evolution

Chihu township was established in 1940, Chihu District in 1949, town in 1956, commune in 1958, township in 1984 and town in 1988.

In 1997, it had jurisdiction over Chihu neighborhood committee and 13 village committees including Tingli village, Dongcheng village, Xicheng village, Beiqiao village, Qianzhang village, Houhu village, Shanyou village, Baoan village, Nanfeng village, Yueyu village, Banshi village, Qianhu village and Xipan village.

Location context

Chihu town is located in the east coast of Zhangpu County, adjacent to Fotan town in the north, Huxi she Township in the west, Shentu town in the south, Taiwan Strait in the East, Qianhu Bay and Tseung Kwan O in the sea, with a coastline of 17.25 km. The town government is located in Beiqiao village, 35 kilometers away from the county. Zhangdong provincial road runs through the whole territory from northeast to southwest, with convenient transportation.

The main agricultural products are rice, sweet potato, peanut, banana, litchi, longan, peach, plum, asparagus, green onion, radish and edible fungi. Coastal fishing and fixed net and mariculture.

The town is rich in granite and silica sand, which is being developed and utilized. Baoan has crystal mines. In the Yuan Dynasty, the imperial court had sent eunuchs to supervise the mining. Therefore, it is said that there was a eunuch's office in Chihu, and Zeng Renli, the richest man in Chihu, was said to be the "son-in-law". The security guard is still working on large pieces of crystal.

economic development

Since the reform and opening up, more than one thousand enterprises have sprung up in Chihu, half of which are industrial enterprises, forming three major industries of stone plate, clothing and agricultural products processing, as well as casting, steel pipe, stone carving, knitting and other industries. With the expansion of the street, there are more than 2000 stores, including 46 Chinese businesses, 282 collective stores and more than 1900 individual stores. Two new farmer's markets are very prosperous. In 2001, the output value of township enterprises was 1.19 billion yuan, of which the industrial output value was 910 million yuan, the total financial revenue was 12 million yuan, and the per capita net income of farmers was 4050 yuan.

Industrial planning

Chihu Industrial Park covers an area of 8 square kilometers, which is divided into 3 square kilometers of Yangping Industrial Zone, 3 square kilometers of centralized pollution control zone and 2 square kilometers of Tseung Kwan O yacht manufacturing industrial zone.

By 2001, the first phase has developed 1.6 square kilometers, and 65 large-scale enterprises have opened, including 30 foreign-funded enterprises and 8000 workers.
