Dongxiang Township
Dongxiang township is located in the Northeast sea area of Pingtan comprehensive experimental area in Fujian Province, with more than 20 islands and reefs. Except Dongxiang Island, all of them are uninhabited, 14 kilometers away from the county. It covers an area of 4.46 square kilometers. It has jurisdiction over eight administrative villages. Hulu'ao is a good natural harbor, and the passenger ships pass through the water town.
Historical evolution
In the first year of the Republic of China, Dongxiang district was set up, which belonged to one district after 10 years of the Republic of China; in the 20th year, it belonged to two districts; in January 26, it belonged to dongxiangbao under the jurisdiction of one district; in September 28, Dongxiang township was set up, which still belonged to one district; in August 31, it was merged into Zhongzheng township; in July 33, Dongxiang township was reestablished; in September 38, it belonged to one district; in July 1952, it belonged to six districts; in March 1956, it belonged to Zhonglou district; in April 1958, it was withdrawn and merged with the township, which still belonged to one district Dongxiang township was established; in August 1958, it was changed to Liushui branch; in 1961, Dongxiang People's commune was established; in September 1984, Dongxiang township was reestablished. Dongxiang township is dominated by fishery, which is called "jindongxiang and yintangyu" together with Tangyu.

It has jurisdiction over eight village committees in Nanjiang, Aodi, Dongfeng, Aoxing, Dongjin, Hubei, Dongxia and Hubian. Based on fishery, it is rich in large yellow croaker, hairtail, mackerel, hairtail shrimp, laver, and famous precious seafood, green edge saw crab.
economic development
Before the founding of the people's Republic of China, Dongxiang was an isolated island with frequent bandits, poor people's lives and closed traffic. Its economy was dominated by fishing, backward means of production and low output. After the founding of the people's Republic of China, it focused on the development of fixed net production in dongxiangmen sea area, established a state-owned dongxiangmen fishing ground, and produced Charybdis, shrimps, clove fish and laver, which are well-known both inside and outside the province. In 1963, it had 211 fishing vessels with 1036 tons, including only one motor sailboat, with a fishery output of 2126 tons. After that, the development of offshore reclamation and the continuous improvement of fishery production and mechanization. In 1978, it had 268 fishing vessels, with a gross tonnage of 1658 tons, including 185 motor boats, 1431 tons, and a total fishery output of 4826 tons. After the reform and opening up, the marine transportation industry has developed rapidly by cultivating the industrial group with marine economy as the main body, expanding offshore mariculture, and vigorously developing pelagic fishing. With the development of fishery, related shipyards, machine repair plants, refrigeration plants, aquatic products processing plants have been established. At the same time, Nanjiang and dongxiangmen wharves were built, and submarine communication cables and power cables were laid. In 1995, the total output value of rural society was 101 million yuan, and that of industry and agriculture was 89.34 million yuan. The total output of fishery is 8928 tons and the total output value is 26.3 million yuan. It has 40 transport ships of 20000 tons, with an annual output value of more than 10 million yuan.
Fishery development
Before the Qing Dynasty, Dongxiang was a fish distribution center. During the reign of Emperor Kangxi of Qing Dynasty, it was a flood area. The west of Dongxiang town is the agricultural area, and the East is the key fishing area of the county. From the 1950s to the early 1960s, the fishery production was mainly offshore fishing, with less mariculture and low degree of fishery mechanization. There were 595 fishing boats of 3343 tonnage, mostly non motorized boats. In 1963, the total output of grain was 2067 tons, accounting for 14.1% of the total output of the county; the total output of fishery was 7603 tons, accounting for 23.3% of the total output of the county. From the mid-1960s to the end of 1970s, agricultural production was strengthened, and the ability of drought resistance and fishing was continuously improved. The degree of mechanization of fishery has gradually increased, and fishery production has begun to develop to the open sea, and other domestic fishing grounds have been expanded. In 1978, the total output value of agriculture was 14.17 million yuan, including 9.08 million yuan of fishery. The total grain output is 2953 tons, and the total fishery output is 11000 tons. After the 1980s, with the development of fishery and agriculture, other economies developed rapidly. In fishery production, the policy of combining breeding, fishing and processing was implemented, and offshore fishing and pelagic fishing were vigorously developed. Beach aquaculture developed rapidly, and oysters, clams, kelp, laver and mussels were cultivated. With the rapid development of township and village enterprises, which mainly focus on aquatic products processing industry, their products have entered the international market, with more than 10 kinds of export products, becoming an important export base of Pingtan County. In 1995, there were 524 fishing boats and 13400 tons in the town, forming three thousand mu aquaculture patches, with a mariculture area of 2800 mu, 101 town and village run enterprises, and more than 40 products exported. The total social output value of the town is 319 million yuan, and the total industrial and agricultural output value is 146 million yuan (constant price in 1990), including 54.5 million yuan of fishery output value and 82.37 million yuan of industrial output value. The total value of foreign trade purchase accounts for 80% of the county's export. The total output of fishery is 41300 tons, accounting for 26.6% of the total output of the county.
