Changqiao Street
Changqiao street belongs to Wuzhong District, Suzhou City, Jiangsu Province. It is located in the south of Suzhou ancient city. It is the seat of Wuzhong District government and the center of economic, political, cultural and social activities of Wuzhong District.
Changqiao Street area is 15.3 square kilometers, under the jurisdiction of 31 communities, with a population of 62875 (2010).
Changqiao street has a long history and a lot of traffic. The ancient town of Lishu is said to be the hermit place of Fan Li, a senior official of Yue State. The 53 kongbaodai bridge, which was built in Yuanhe period of Tang Dynasty, crosses the Beijing Hangzhou Grand Canal and borders the Stone Lake scenic spot with mountains and rivers in the West. It has a beautiful environment and pleasant scenery.
Changqiao has won the honorary titles of "advanced villages and towns of mass culture and mass sports in Jiangsu Province", "model villages and towns of educational modernization in Jiangsu Province", "health towns in Jiangsu Province" and "top 100 villages and towns in Jiangsu Province".
On December 16, 2019, it will be included in the list of the third batch of smart health elderly care demonstration streets (towns).
Evolution of organizational system
Lishu, the former residence of Changqiao Town, belonged to Gouwu state at the end of Shang Dynasty. It is said that Fan Li, a senior official of the state of Yue, lived here in the spring and Autumn period. In the 26th year of the first emperor of Qin Dynasty (221 BC), there was a department, county and county system. The administrative region of Changqiao town (hereinafter referred to as Changqiao territory) was subordinate to Wu County. In the first year of Tongtian (696), the eastern part of Wu County was located in Changzhou County, and the eastern part of Changqiao territory (east of mianzhanggang) was assigned to Changzhou county. in the third year of Kaiping (909) in the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms, the southern part of Wu County was located in Wujiang County, and the southern part of Changqiao area (south of dantai, west of mianzhanggang, east of nianyukou and south of shaoanggang) was under Wujiang county. At that time, Changqiao was divided into three counties: Wuxian, Changzhou and Wujiang. In the first year of Hongzhi of Ming Dynasty (1488), there were townships under the county, and Changqiao was subordinate to Lingyan township of Wu County, Yinshan township of Changzhou county and fanyushang township of Wujiang county. In the second year of Yongzheng (1724) of the Qing Dynasty, it was divided into counties, and the southeast of Changzhou county was Yuanhe County, and the eastern part of the territory was changed to Yinshan township of Yuanhe county. Lishu town was built in the middle of Qing Dynasty, which was one of the 11 established towns in Wu County. In January of the first year of the Republic of China (1912), Wu County, Changzhou county and Yuanhe county were merged into Wu County. Wujiang county is governed by Wujiang county and Wuqiao County by time. In November of the same year, according to the "provisional local system of Jiangsu Province", more than 50000 people were cities, and less than 50000 people were townships. The township office is located in Shangtang street, Lishu Town, which is located in the west of Wuxian county. It has jurisdiction over 2du 35tu (including Hengtang town in the suburb of Suzhou), covering an area of 58.25 square kilometers. It originally belonged to Yinshan Township in the east of Yuanhe County, and Dongxi Township in the south of Wujiang county. At that time, Changqiao was subordinate to Lishu Township, Yinshan Township and hudongxi township of Wujiang county. In 1926, Lishu public welfare office was established; in 1927, it was changed to Lishu office. In August 1929, according to the instructions of Jiangsu provincial government, the 16th (Lishu) District of Wu County was established. The district office is located in Xiatang street of Lishu Town, which governs 5 market towns, 26 townships and 180 Lu, 888 neighbors. It is the original Lishu township area. At that time, Changqiao was subordinate to the 16th (Lishu) District, the 14th (Yinshan) district and the first (Chengxiang) District of Wujiang county. In 1934, the 16th (Lishu) District of Wu County was merged into the 2nd (Mudu) District, and Lishu town was built. The town office is located in tanlangbang, Xiatang street, Lishu Town, and it has jurisdiction over 3 baos, 12 Jias and 233 households. The fourteenth (Yinshan) District of Wu County was merged into the eighth (Guoxiang) district and renamed the eighth (Yinguo) district. At that time, Changqiao was subordinate to the second (Mudu) District, the eighth (Yinguo) district and the first (Chengxiang) District of Wujiang county. In 1937, Lishu was occupied. In March of the 28th year of the Republic of China (1939), the governor's office of the puppet Wu County set up Lishu Township Office, which was located in canglangbang, Xiatang street, Lishu town. In July 1941, the second (Mudu) District of the puppet Wu County was renamed the seventh (Mudu) District, and the eighth (Yinguo) District of the puppet Wu County was merged into the eleventh (Chefang) district. At that time, the territory of Changqiao belonged to the seventh (Mudu) District, the eleventh (Chefang) district and the first (Chengxiang) District of the puppet Wujiang county respectively. On August 15, 1945, the war of resistance against Japan was won, and the names and boundaries of districts and townships were still restored to the situation before 1937. in 1946, the first (Chengxiang) District of Wujiang county was renamed as urban area, and the southern part of Changqiao area was subordinate to Hudong Township and Huxi township of Wujiang county. In October of the same year, Huxi Township in Wujiang county was renamed Yuexi township. The southern part of Changqiao territory belongs to Hudong Township and Yuexi township of Wujiang county. In February 1947, Wu County merged the second (Mudu) district and the third (Guangfu) District into Wuxi District, and the eleventh (Chefang) district and the tenth (Luzhi) District into Songbei district. The Changqiao area belongs to Wuxi District, Songbei district and Wujiang district respectively. In early 1948, Lishu town was renamed Shihu town. In February 1948, Hudong Township and Yuexi Township in Wujiang county were merged into Yuexi township. The southern part of Changqiao territory belongs to Yuexi Township, Wujiang county. On April 23, 1949, Lishu was liberated. On May 1, districts and townships (towns) were re established. Lishu Town, Shihu Township and Yinshan Township were set up in Changqiao area, and Yuexi township was set up in the southwest. Lishu town and Shihu Township belonged to Mudu District of Wuxian County, Yinshan township to Songbei District of Wuxian County, and Yuexi Township to Chengxiang District of Wujiang county. in January 1950, Wujiang county was divided into township (town) and Yuexi Township into Hudong Township and Huxi township. The southern part of Changqiao territory is under the jurisdiction of Hudong Township and Huxi Township, Chengxiang District, Wujiang county. In March 1950, Wuxian county was divided into townships (towns). Shihu township was divided into Lishu Township, Lishu Township, Anquan Township, Xinguo Township, Shuangqiao Township, Hengtang Township and Longqiao township; Yinshan township was divided into Changqiao Township, Baodai Township, Yinshan Township and Qingshu township. At that time, Lishu Town, Lishu Township, Anquan Township, Xinguo Township, Yangfeng Township, Changqiao Township and Longqiao Township were subordinate to Fengqiao District of Wu County; Hengtang township was subordinate to the suburbs of Suzhou City; Baodai Township, Yinshan Township and Qingshu Township were subordinate to Chefang District of Wu County; Hudong Township and Huxi Township were subordinate to Chengxiang District of Wujiang county. On April 15, 1950, Baodai township was merged into Changqiao township; Qingshu township was merged into Yinshan Township and renamed Yinxi Township, which was assigned to Fengqiao District of Wuxian county. On August 8, 1950, the northern half of Hudong Township and Huxi Township in Wujiang county were assigned to Wuxian County, while the southern half of Yinxi Township in Wuxian county was assigned to Wujiang county. The southeast part of Changqiao territory belongs to Yinxi Township, Fengqiao District, Wuxian county. On May 1, 1953, Lishu town was merged into Lishu township. In April 1954, Lishu Township, Anquan Township, Xinguo Township and Longqiao Township were assigned to the suburbs of Suzhou, while Changqiao Township and Yinxi Township were returned to Chefang District of Wu County. In January 1956, Lishu Township and Anquan Township merged into Lishu Township, Longqiao Township and Xinguo Township merged into Longqiao Township, and Changqiao Township and Yinxi Township merged into Changqiao township. In March 1957, Changqiao township was merged into Guoxiang Township, which was subordinate to Wu County. In September 1957, Lishu Township and Longqiao Township merged into Lishu Township, which was subordinate to the suburbs of Suzhou. In October 1958, the people's commune of Lishu was established, which was based in Lishu town. In August 1959, Lishu people's commune was restored to Wu County. In December 1965, the original Guoxiang people's commune of Changqiao, Xinhua (now Baonan Village), Xinjian (now Xinjiang Village), Jinxing (now Baoyin Village), Hongzhuang, Weixing (now Donghu Village), and Gangtie (now Yinxi village, Shuangqiao Village) were assigned to Lishu people's Commune and renamed Changqiao people's commune, forming the present Changqiao Town, with a total area of 34.22 square kilometers. In July 1983, the government and the community were separated and the township system was restored. Changqiao people's commune was renamed Changqiao township. in December 1986, the township was removed to build a town, the system of town managing village was implemented, and the Changqiao town system was set up. In the same month, tuanjieqiao sub District Office (township level) was set up in the northern part of the town. In August 1989, it was renamed Wuxian New District Office, which is subordinate to the people's Government of Changqiao town. In June 1990, Wuxian Economic and Technological Development Zone was built in the northeast of Jingyu. In March 1992, Wu County New District Office was abolished and Wu County Urban Administration Bureau was established, which is an agency of Wu County People's government. in December 1993, the Urban Management Bureau of Wuxian county was renamed Changqiao Town Urban Management Bureau of Wuxian county (township level), which is still under the people's Government of Changqiao town. In June 1997, jiansuyuan, yuebang and Longxi sub district offices in the urban area were subordinate to the people's Government of Changqiao town. In December 1998, the Urban Administration Bureau of Changqiao town in Wuxian county was abolished, and the sub district offices of Suyuan, yuebang and Longxi were upgraded to the first level bureau, which is the agency of Wuxian Municipal People's government. on February 28, 2001, Wuxian City was abolished and divided into Wuzhong District and Xiangcheng District of Suzhou city. Changqiao was subordinate to Wuzhong District.
