Historical evolution

Before 1949, it was under the jurisdiction of Liuhe County, Jiangsu Province. Leiguan township was established in 1949, a commune was established in 1958, and the township was changed in 1984. In 1992, Leiguan and Yanchen townships were merged into Leiguan town. In 1996, it covers an area of 90 square kilometers and has a population of 28000. It governs 25 administrative villages including Gaowei, Wangwei, Chenwei, Wuxing, Sanli, Yantang, Jiulian, Guangming, Qiaowan, Leiguan, Beizhuang, Wuqi, Huangqiao, Xiaoguan, Chenguan, Gaochang, Yanchen, Yandun, Jiangdu, Zhangying, Yangdu, Weiying, Aiying, Sanlian and Jiedao. In 2000, there were 15234 people in Leiguan town and 11486 people in Yanchen (non approved township).
