Shanggu township is located in the southeast of Yongfeng County, Ji'an City, Jiangxi Province, 59 kilometers away from the county government, covering an area of 82.78 square kilometers. The township government is located in Shanggu street, which governs seven administrative villages, including Shanggu, Qiaobei, Shixi, Huilong, ZhangTian, ankeng and Hanxia, with a total population of 7412 (2017).

Historical evolution
Shanggu, Hanxia and Huilong were three townships in 1950. Shanggu commune was established in 1958. It was merged into Longgang commune in 1968. Shanggu commune was restored in 1972 and changed to township in 1984. Shanggu Junbu highway and Shanggu Longgang highway run through the jurisdiction. Shanggu river runs through the territory.

Economic overview
