Niuzhen

Niuzhen Town, belonging to Taihu County, Anqing City, Anhui Province, is 24 kilometers northwest of Taihu County. It is a reservoir town in the upstream of Huating lake and a transportation hub in the mountainous area of the county. The town government is located at the intersection of chibei and Taibei trunk roads and Xueyi River, Nanyang River and Mituo River, north to Dianqian town of Yuexi County and Dianqian town of Shanghai Wuhan expressway The entrance is about 35 km away from the town government. Now niuzhen (the administrative division was adjusted in 2004, and the former Tianqiao township was reorganized and the former Yanjiang village of Huangzhen town was included) governs 10 village committees and 290 villager groups, with a total area of 163 square kilometers and a population of 25087 (2017).

Historical evolution

Niuzhen commune was established in 1961 and changed to township in 1984. In February 1992, niuzhen town and Longwan Township were merged to establish niuzhen Town, with an area of 76.59 square kilometers and a population of 13074. It governs 15 administrative villages including Xixi, Yihe, Hujia, Daming, Longpan, Liping, Anping, Jiangwan, Nanyang, suchong, Huawu, Longxi, Longdong, Longwan and Jinzhong. The town government is located in the former niuzhen district (i.e. niuzhuoling). In 1997, it covers an area of 76.6 square kilometers and has a population of 14000. It governs 15 administrative villages including Jinzhong, Longwan, Longxi, Longdong, Huawu, Xixi, Yihe, Hujia, Daming, Anping, Liping, Longpan, Jiangwan, Nanyang and suchong. In 2004, Tianqiao Township and Yanjiang village of Huangzhen town were merged into niuzhen Town, with an area of 163 square kilometers and a population of 25000. It has jurisdiction over 26 administrative villages and 290 villager groups. It has jurisdiction over 10 administrative villages including yechong, Banqiao, Yanghe, Tianguang, Weihe, Tongyi, Gaotian, qiaotan, Fanshan and YaoJian. The township government is stationed in qiaotan village. In 1997, with an area of 81 square kilometers and a population of 10000, it has jurisdiction over 10 administrative villages, namely yechong, Yanghe, Tianguang, Banqiao, Weihe, Tongyi, Gaotian, Fanshan, Yuejian and qiaotan.

Niuzhen governs 10 administrative villages, including Longping village, Tianguang village, Tongyi village, Tianqiao village, Longwan village, Chanyuan village, Nanyang Village, Yanjiang village, Jinzhong village, yechong village, etc., with 299 villager groups and a population of 25087 (2017). Longping village is the seat of niuzhen town government. It is a combination of 28 villager groups from the original Anping, Liping and Longpan natural villages. The village covers an area of 7 square kilometers (including 964 mu of paddy field, 88 mu of dry land and 7516 mu of mountain farm), with 815 households and 3186 people. There are 2000 migrant workers every year. Tianguang village is located in the northwest corner of Taihu County, adjacent to Dianqian town and Sitou township of Yuexi County. The village is composed of two natural villages, Tianguang and Gaotian. The beautiful Tianguang lake is embedded in it, connecting the two into one. The total area of the village is nearly 12 square kilometers, including 811 mu of cultivated land and 2500 mu of mountain farm. A total of 8 villager groups, 340 households, 1340 people. Tongyi village is located in the upper reaches of Huating lake, in the hinterland of Dabie Mountains, covering an area of 7.6 square kilometers. The village has a high terrain, beautiful mountains, gurgling streams and fresh air, integrating landscape and original ecology. Tongyi river across the territory of East and West, clear water, fish and shrimp visible, natural and pure. The forest coverage rate is up to 90%, and most of the trees are pine, fir and bamboo. The village has 15 villager groups with a population of 1108 and 23 party members. The main industries are forestry, sericulture, Camellia oleifera, tea and animal husbandry. 　

Tianqiao village, covering an area of 38 square kilometers (including 31815.5 mu of mountain farm and 1821.9 mu of cultivated land), has 17 villager groups, 585 households and 3550 people. The village is located in the hinterland of Dabie Mountains in Southwest Anhui, upstream of Huating Lake scenic spot, and 205 county road passes through the village. The village is clean and tidy with perfect infrastructure. It has successively won the honorary titles of "advanced grassroots party organization", "model of village Party organization" in the county, "advanced village of rural grassroots organization construction", "advanced village of three civilization construction" and "advanced village of family planning" in the town. Longwan village is the east gate of niuzhen town. The highway around the reservoir connects the East and the west, and the Longwan river passes around the village. The total area of the village is 2200 mu, including 1878 mu of cultivated land and 26570 mu of forest land. It has jurisdiction over 36 villager groups, 825 households and 2968 people. There are 1928 workers, 783 of whom are migrant workers. The main food crops in the village are rice, with an annual output of 550 tons; pig and cattle farming; rape, with an annual output of 30 tons of rapeseed; oranges, chestnuts, tea, etc. With an annual output of 50 tons of chestnut, it is a big chestnut production village. In 2009, the per capita net income of farmers was 2200 yuan. Chenyuan village is located in the northwest corner of niuzhen Town, which is a combination of Daming village, Hujia village, Yihe village and Xixi village. The total area of the village is 16.8 square kilometers (including 23707 mu of woodland and 1358 mu of cultivated land). It administers 42 villager groups, with 892 households and 3326 people. In 2010, the per capita net income of the whole village was 2350 yuan. Nanyang Village is located at the junction of niuzhen, Mituo, Tianhua and Liufan. Liuniu highway and Tianmi highway crisscross with convenient land and water transportation. With a total area of 12 square kilometers, the village has 32 villager groups. Among them, the mountain area is 12159 mu, and the cultivated land area is 1046.5 mu. There are 799 households with 3159 villagers. Yanjiang village is located in the upper reaches of the beautiful Huating lake, with a mountain on one side and water on three sides. The village has 12 villager groups, 315 households and 1170 people. It covers an area of nearly 4 square kilometers, including 461 mu of cultivated land and 3600 mu of mountain farms. Jinzhong village belongs to the village of mountain and reservoir area. The village has 490 mu of mountain farm and 249 mu of cultivated land. The population is 1260, with 335 households (including 13 households with five guarantees and 115 households with poverty). The village has weak infrastructure and inconvenient transportation. With the development of economy and society, great changes have taken place and living conditions have been improved. The main sources of local economy are: first, relying on migrant workers. The number of migrant workers accounts for 46% of the total population; second, relying on the local planting industry.
