Chengguan District was set up in June 1949, changed to town in 1956, belonged to lighthouse commune in 1958, restored Chengguan town in July 1959, changed to Longyou town in December, established Longyou commune in 1963, and merged into Longyou town in 1983. Guantan township was established in 1949. It was incorporated into Sihou Township in 1956, and guantan township was set aside from Sihou Township in 1983. In 1996, Chengguan town covers an area of 78 square kilometers and has a population of 74000.
