Maqiao Street

Maqiao street, the capital of warp knitting in China, is 60km away from Hangzhou in the West and 100km away from Shanghai in the East, with a total area of 39.2 square kilometers. Evolution of organizational system

It was named after Maqiao in the past. At the beginning of the Republic of China, the town was established. In 1947, it was renamed Shibo Township in memory of the Anti Japanese hero Chen Shibo. HUTANG commune was established in 1958, and Maqiao commune was established in 1961. It changed its name to Hongqi commune in 1966 and returned to its original name in 1982. Yiwei township was established in 1983, and the town was restored in 1988. It produces rice, rapeseed, cocoon, pig, freshwater fish, etc. There are textile, knitting, reeling, machinery, clothing, bearings, building materials and other factories. Daze temple, Baishu temple and yijiaqiao have Neolithic cultural sites. Business is booming. There are roads to the city.

In 2000, a new round of administrative division adjustment, Maqiao town was divided into Dongchang village, Dongchang village was divided into Xiashi Town, HUTANG town was abolished and merged into Maqiao town. In 2003, Maqiao town was changed from town to street. Since then, Maqiao town has been incorporated into the administrative territory of the city, opening a new development in the south of the city.
