The reason why Yangfangdian sub district office is named "Yangfangdian" is that when the sub district office was established in March 1956, its office was located in Yangfangdian village at that time, so it is called Yangfangdian sub district office.
Today, Yangfangdian, located in the north of Beijing West Railway Station, was built in 1153 ad in the Jin Dynasty. The place name of Yangfangdian first appeared in the records of Xijin. This book, written by Xiong mengxiang of Yuan Dynasty, describes the local customs of Beijing, such as the official offices, waterways, lanes, temples, historic sites and customs in Dadu and jinzhongdu of Yuan Dynasty, and Nanjing of Liao Dynasty. It is the earliest existing literature dedicated to the local history and geography of Beijing, which shows that the place name of Yangfangdian existed in Liao and Jin Dynasties.
The ancient Beijing city is located in the border area between the Han nationality in the Central Plains and the northern minorities. It gradually became a market for selling sheep and other related industries, such as inn, chariot and horse shop, various workshops, etc. It can be seen that Yangfang store not only represents the name of the store, but also represents a commercial area with a considerable scale of urban and rural market.
In ancient times, Yangfangdian road was not a road connecting north and south, but a road connecting East and west to huichengmen in the north of the old street office.
After the construction of Dadu in the Yuan Dynasty, the location of Yangshi became a suburb. In the Ming Dynasty, it became a weak residential village, named "yangwangdian" and "Yangfangdian". In the Qing Dynasty, it was called "Yangfangdian" until now.
