Wen Yan, a Zen monk of Five Dynasties, is the founder of Yunmen sect. According to Volume 19 of chuandenglu in Jingde, Volume 8 of zhuanfazhengji and Volume 2 of tianrenyanmu, the surname is Zhang. Suzhou Jiaxing (now Zhejiang) people. After becoming a monk, he studied all over the country. At the beginning, he studied in muzhou (now Jiande, Zhejiang Province) and daozong (known as Chen zunsu in the world, about 780-877). Later, he studied in Yicun and got his seal. Living in Shaozhou (now Shaoguan, Guangdong Province), Yunmen mountain has its own system, which is called "Yunmen Wenyan". His Zen style is known as cloud gate three sentences: "write to cover heaven and earth, cut off the stream, follow the waves." There were no less than a thousand apprentices and 61 law heirs.
