Life of the characters
In the second year of Tianqi (1622), he was a Jinshi, and was awarded the Ministry of Cao. Later, he was changed to be the head of the Nanjing household department. He discussed taxes in Wuhu and kept clean.
During the reign of Chongzhen, he was promoted to the prefect of Rao Prefecture, and moved to Jiangxi Province as the deputy governor of grain and Sichuan Province as the deputy governor. Zheng sanjun recommended five incorruptible officials, headed by Zhang Youyu, whose name was written on the screen by Emperor Chongzhen. He was promoted to the right Minister of Nanjing household department, the censor of Jindu, and the governor cangchang.
When he arrived, Emperor Hongguang had already established himself and turned to the left. Zhang Zhizhong, the internal official, collected white grain, blackmailed the bedding fee, and killed the household with his staff. Zhang Youyu sent his Xujie to prison, but Zhang Zhizhong was a little restrained. Zhang Youyu called on the emperor and suggested that emperor Hongguang cut down redundant soldiers and expenses, and be thrifty to be the first in the world.
Ma Shiying's determination to use Ruan Dacheng was strongly opposed by the court officials. Ma Shiying thought that it was difficult to use it for the purpose, so he took Zhang Youyu as the Minister of the Ministry of household affairs. Gao Hongtu thought that Zhang Youyu could be used, but the internal biography could not be opened, so he granted the imperial edict, and the officials handed over the rules and didn't listen to it, which opened the beginning of Hongguang's biography. Soon, the prince and his wife were added. At that time, the four towns in Jiangbei needed 200000 Liang each. Zhang Youyu couldn't figure out what to do. He even vomited blood and begged to return. He was not allowed to do so.
After the collapse of Hongguang regime, Zhang Youyu fled to wukangshan (now Tongguanshan) as a monk. He called himself Dayuan and died at the age of 81.
