Zhang Ye was born in Handan (today's Handan, Hebei Province) and lived in Yanyou and Zhizhi years.

He wrote in the Imperial Academy, and his works were collected from the ancient mountain Yuefu.

His father, Zhang Zhihan, is also a poet.
