Cen Xi
Cen Xi? ~713), word Bohua, Nanyang County Jiyang County (now Xinye County, Henan Province) people. The Prime Minister of Tang Dynasty, the grandson of Cen Wenwen, the commander of Zhongshu, and the son of Shi Cen Manqian, the governor of Yong. He was born as a Jinshi. He served successively as Taichang doctor, Chenzhou judicial officer, jintanling, sishuiling, tianguanwailang, zhongshusheren, Secretary Shaojian, and Minister of the Ministry of official,
In 710 (the first year of Jingyun), Cen Xi paid homage to the prime minister. He was granted the right Sanqi Changshi, the third grade official of tongzhongshu. Soon he was dismissed as prime minister, and was released as the governor of shaanzhou. Later, he served as the Minister of punishment, the Minister of Hubu, the third grade official of tongzhongshu and other important positions in the Hui Dynasty. After Li Longji, Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty, ascended to the throne by Zen, Cen Xi attached himself to Princess Taiping and plotted to make trouble. In July of 713 (the first year of Kaiyuan), Li Longji, Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty, launched a coup to kill Princess Taiping, and Cen Xi was ambushed.
Life of the characters
Early deeds
When Cen Xi was young, he passed the entrance examination and moved to Dr. Taichang. In 691 (the second year of Tianshu), CEN changqian, the prime minister, was falsely accused of treason and was sentenced to death. As a nephew of Cen changqian, Cen Xi was also implicated and demoted to Chenzhou judicial service.
During his tenure as magistrate of Jintan County, Cen Xi, together with his younger brother, cen Zhongxiang of Changzhou county and Cen Zhongxiu of Lishui County, was praised by the prime minister Zong Chuke and recommended as magistrate of Sishui county.

In 704 (the fourth year of Chang'an), Wu Zetian ordered the prime minister to recommend officials. Wei Sili, the Minister of Fengge, recommended Cen Xi and said, "it's a pity that he was implicated by his uncle Cen changqian." Wu Zetian said: "as long as he has talent, he will not be involved." So Cen Xi was appointed as the official of heaven. Since then, Liu Shouti, Pei Pai and other officials implicated by their relatives have been promoted.
In 705 (the first year of Shenlong), Emperor Zhongzong of Tang Dynasty was restored, and Cen Xi was appointed as Zhongshu Sheren. Soon, the minister Jing Hui planned to go to the imperial court and ask for the titles of the kings of the Wu family to be written down. Cen Xi wrote a book with sincere words, which angered Wu Sansi and was demoted to Secretary Shaojian.
In 707 (the first year of Jinglong), Prince Li chongjun launched a coup and was killed. The imperial censor ran zuyong took the opportunity to frame up the conspiracy of Prime Minister Li Dan and Princess Taiping with the prince, and asked Zhongzong to interrogate and investigate. Cen Xi and Xiao Zhizhong advised the emperor to protect Li Dan and Princess Taiping. Later, Cen Xi supervised the revision of Zhong Zong Shi Lu and recorded the matter.
In 708 (the second year of Jinglong), Cen Xi was appointed Minister of the Ministry of official affairs. At that time, Cui Shi, the minister in charge of the selection of officials, Zheng Min, the Shaoqing of Taichang, and Li Yuangong, the Shaoqing of Dali, all took bribes and were famous for their corruption. Only Cen Xi abides by the right way and is praised by the public.
As prime minister
In 710 (the first year of Tang Long), Emperor Zhongzong of Tang Dynasty died. Empress Wei made Wen Wang Li chongmao emperor, who was also called Shang emperor. Cen Xi was promoted to the rank of yousanqichangshi and tongzhongshumenxiasanpin, and became prime minister. Soon after, he was appointed governor of Henan Province.
Soon after, Li Longji launched the Tang Long coup, killed empress Wei, deposed Tang Shang emperor, and supported Li Dan, the prime minister, as emperor. Cen Xi served as governor of Shanzhou, and later served as Minister of the Ministry of punishment, Minister of the Ministry of household, and supervised the revision of national history.
In 712 (the first year of Xiantian), Cen Xi once again took the post of Sanpin of tongzhongshu, and therefore, he took the credit of protecting Ruizong, and became a minister of Nanyang County. In August of the same year, Tang Ruizong Zen was located in Li Longji, the crown prince of the Tang Dynasty.
At that time, the power of Princess Taiping fell to the government and the public. Cen Xi, dou huaizhen and Cui Shi all attached to her and planned to make trouble day and night. Liu you, the prime minister, and Zhang Wei, the general of the Imperial Army, planned to get rid of them, but the matter leaked out and they were all exiled to Lingnan.
The coup
In 713 (the first year of Kaiyuan), Princess Taiping conspired with Dou huaizhen, Cenxi, Xiao Zhizhong, Cui Shi, Prince Shaobao Xue Ji and governor Shi Lijin to depose Emperor Xuanzong and establish another emperor.
In July of the same year, Princess Taiping set out to fight on the 4th. She ordered Chang Yuankai, the general of left Yulin, and Li Ci, the general of right Yulin, to lead her troops into Wude hall. She also ordered Cen Xi, dou huaizhen, and Xiao Zhizhong to raise their troops in Nanya to respond. As a result, the information was leaked before the action was taken.
After discussing with Li Fan, the king of Qi, Li Ye, the king of Xue, and Guo Yuanzhen, the prime minister, Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty ordered Mao Zhong, the king of the Dragon army, to lead his troops from Wude hall to Qianhua gate to kill Chang Yuankai and Li Ci, and to break into the court to capture Cen Xi and Xiao Zhizhong. After Cen Xi died, his family property was also copied.
Anecdotes and allusions
After paying homage to the prime minister, Cenxi's elder brother Cen Xian served as the Secretary of the Imperial Academy, while his younger brothers Cen Zhongxiang and Cen Zhongxiu served as the governor of the state. There were ten of Cen's brothers and nephews, all of whom were in important positions. Cen Xi sighed: "when things go to extremes, they will turn back. I have to be wary." But it did not dethrone.
