The Wu family originated from the state of Wu with the Ji surname. Its first ancestors were Taibo and Zhongyong. It was formed in the early Warring States period. There is a famous story about giving up talents. Gu Gong, the leader of the Zhou tribe (surnamed Ji), had three sons: Taibo, Zhongyong and Jili. His youngest son, Ji Lixian, was benevolent and talented. He married the virtuous Tai Ren and gave birth to a son named Ji Chang, who was greatly favored by the ancient Duke. Gu Gong placed his hope on Jichang for the prosperity of Zhou tribe. Taibo, the eldest son, and Zhongyong, the second son, understood that their father wanted Ji Li to be the successor so that they could pass on the throne to Ji Chang in the future, so they automatically gave up their position. When the ancient public was ill, they took advantage of the excuse of collecting medicine for their father and went to the southeast coastal area of Wu and Yue, where they no longer lived in Shaanxi, where they broke their hair and tattoos. At that time, Jiangnan was still very backward. Because Taibo and Zhongyong brought the advanced culture and technology of the Central Plains, the local people supported Taibo as the leader and established the state of Wu with the surname of Ji, which was also called Gouwu. After his death, his younger brother Zhongyong inherited the throne and passed it on from generation to generation. with the gradual rise of Wu state in the south of the Yangtze River, great changes have taken place in the Zhou tribes living in Qishan, Shaanxi Province. Gu Gong passed the throne to Ji Li, and Ji Li passed the throne to Ji Chang (King Wen of Zhou). After Ji Chang died, his son Jifa (King Wu of Zhou) inherited his will and united with the princes to destroy the Shang Dynasty and establish the Zhou Dynasty, which is known as the Western Zhou Dynasty in history. At the beginning of the Western Zhou Dynasty, Jifa sought the descendants of Taibo and Zhongyong. At that time, Zhouzhang, the great grandson of Zhongyong, was already the king of Wu, so he named Zhouzhang Wuzi and Taibo wubo. In addition, Yuzhong, the younger brother of Zhouzhang, was granted the former site of Xia Dynasty in the north of Zhou Dynasty, and they were officially listed as princes. The capital of the state of Wu was established in Wu (now Suzhou, Jiangsu Province), including most of Jiangsu and Shanghai, and some parts of Anhui and Zhejiang. It began to flourish in the late spring and Autumn period. He Lu, the king of Wu, appointed Wu Zixu as his prime minister and Sun Wu as his general. In 506 BC, he once conquered the state of Chu. When he reached Fu Chai, his son, he defeated the state of Yue, forcing Gou Jian, the king of Yue, to yield to peace and go north to fight for hegemony with Jin. Later, because Fu Chai was arrogant and didn't listen to Wu Zixu's advice, Wu was defeated by Gou Jian, king of Yue, and died in 473 BC. Fu Chai, king of Wu, regretted it and committed suicide. The descendants of the king of Wu took refuge everywhere. In order not to forget their homeland, they took the original name of the country as their surname. After the fall of Wu state, Wu Hong, the new prince of Fu Chai, was exiled to Wuyuan, Jiangxi Province, where he developed and propagated. Later, he was divided into Poyang Wu family, Fuliang Wu family, Yugan Wu family, Leping Wu family, Anren Wu family and Jinxian Wu family. Some of Fu Chai's families were trapped in Jiangsu and Zhejiang areas, some fled to Shexian County, Anhui Province, and later developed some branches. Some of them fled to Shandong and Henan They settled down in the south. Wu's move to Taiwan began in 1291. In that year, Wu Guangdou, a member of the Yuan Dynasty's Ministry of rites, was ordered to lead 6000 people to Taiwan by boat, becoming the first Wu to enter Taiwan. After the end of the Ming Dynasty, many people of the Wu family along the coast of Fujian and Guangdong went to Penghu, Taipei and other places to make a living. Wu's first overseas expansion was in Japan, and one of them became a Japanese royal family. Almost at the same time, a large number of Wu family members moved to Vietnam. Now there are more than 200 surnames in Vietnam. Wu is the sixth largest surname in terms of population. the Wu family has a long history of entering Korea.
