Liu Ye? - 24 January 881?) He was the son of Liu Sanfu, the Prime Minister of Tang Dynasty, the official to the Ministry of rites, and Zhang Shi of Tongping. He was killed in the chaos of Huangchao.
Life of the characters
Early experience
Liu Sanfu served as Li Deyu's staff for a long time when he was a local official. During the reign of emperor Wuzong of Tang Dynasty, Li Deyu became the prime minister, and Liu Sanfu became the Minister of the Ministry of punishment.
In 844, under the order of Li Deyu, Liu Sanfu wrote a letter, and then his wife, Mrs. Pei, was executed. At that time, Liu Congjian's adopted son was also his nephew, Liu Zhen, who was rebelling against the court. Soon after, Liu Sanfu died of illness.
When Liu Ye was seven years old, he could recite poems. Out of pity, Li Deyu took him home to study with other scholars.
In 846, Wu Zong died, Emperor uncle Tang Xuanzong succeeded, Li Deyu was demoted. Liu Ye lost his support and wandered around the Yangtze River and Qiantang River to support himself. His ability to write is well known locally.
When Gao Shaoyi was appointed as the observation envoy of Shaanxi Guo, he invited Liu Ye to serve as the regiment training envoy. When Gao Shaoyi was transferred to Zhenguo, Liu Ye also followed him. Later, Liu Ye was recalled to Chang'an, the capital, to serve as a secretary of the provincial government.
Official worship Prime Minister
During the reign of Tang Yizong Xiantong (860-874), the son of Tang Xuanzong, Liu Ye was recommended by his deceased father, Liu Zhan, and Gao Zhen.
In 860, Liu Ye talked about Li Deyu's contribution and his family scattered after his demotion. Yizong recovered Li Deyu's official position and the Duke of Wei state. Liu Ye later served as the academician of the Imperial Academy, and he was also appointed as the Secretary of the Chinese Academy, the Minister of the Ministry of household affairs, and the academician of the Imperial Academy.
In 870, Yizong executed the Royal doctors and arrested their families for the death of his beloved daughter Princess Tongchang. Liu Zhan, then prime minister, pleaded for the family members of the Royal doctors. However, Liu Ye, together with Wei Baoheng, husband of Princess Tongchang, and Lu Yan, prime minister, framed Liu Zhan and demoted him.
In 871, Liu Ye also served as salt and iron transport envoy. In the same year, he was appointed Minister of the Ministry of rites, and was the prime minister in essence.
Killed in chaos
In 873, Tang Yizong died, and his young son succeeded him to the throne.
In 874, Liu Zhan was recalled and paid homage to the prime minister again. Liu Ye was afraid. In the same year, after Liu Ye invited Liu Zhan to the salt and iron yard for a banquet, Liu Zhan fell ill and died. It is generally suspected that he was poisoned by Liu Ye.
Since then, Xiao Fan and Cui Yanzhao have become the chief prime ministers, and neither of them likes Liu Ye. Under their instructions, in 874, Liu Ye was sent out of Beijing to serve as the governor of Huainan. Before he left, Liu Ye expressed his gratitude to Emperor Xizong and read a poem he wrote: "the rain has no effect, and he is deeply ashamed of the use of heaven; the smoke has lost its way, and he does not know the time to return to the bone." Xizong also felt sad.
In 876, Wang Xianzhi's peasant army attacked Huainan. Liu Ye asked the imperial court for help. Fu Zong ordered Xue Neng, the reformer's envoy, to send thousands of people to help him. Later, he ordered Gao pian to replace Liu Ye, called Liu Ye back to Chang'an, and served as Fengxiang Jiedushi and Fengxiang Yin. Liu Ye resigned because of illness and took the post of Zuo pushe.
In 880, Huang Chao peasant army captured Chang'an and called himself Emperor of Qi. Xizong fled to Chengdu. Liu Ye didn't have time to accompany him, and then Prime Minister Dou Lu Fan and Cui hang hid in Zhang Zhifang's home. Zhang Zhifang openly surrendered to Huang Chao, but secretly hid many Tang Dynasty officials at home. When the Qi army stepped up its search for Tang Dynasty officials, Liu Ye, Dou Lu Li and Cui hang fled at night, but they were all caught. Huang Chao gave them official posts, but they refused, so they were killed.
