Wang Anzhi, French Catholic bishop of Nanchang. There are historical events in the history of the second Nanchang case.
On February 25, 1906, Wang Anzhi, bishop of Nanchang, a Catholic Church in France, negotiated with Jiang Qitang, the magistrate of Nanchang, asking for the expansion of missionary privileges. He was refused and stabbed to death, angering the masses. Tens of thousands of people gathered to protest, destroyed many French and English churches, and killed nine people including Wang Anzhi, which is known as the second Nanchang religious case in history. In February 1906, Wang Anzhi, the Catholic bishop of Nanchang, killed Jiang Zhaotang, a magistrate of Nanchang County, who was mediating in the "Tangpu religious case" incident in Yifeng two years ago, causing public indignation in the whole province. After Jiang Zhaotang was brutally killed, Cai Ruiting launched members of "Yizhi society" in Nanchang, printed and distributed leaflets, made speeches everywhere, and called for strike, class strike and market strike. On February 25, tens of thousands of people gathered in front of the Shen ancestral temple in BaiHuaZhou to denounce Wang Anzhi angrily. After the meeting, tens of thousands of Nanchang people went straight to the church, killed Wang Anzhi and some priests, burned the church, and broke out the "Nanchang religious case" that shocked China and foreign countries.
After the "Nanchang religious case", British and French warships gathered in Poyang Lake to intimidate China. Fearing peace, the Qing government signed a contract with the French minister to deal with the aftermath of the religious case in Nanchang, which paid 450000 taels of silver. This aroused the indignation of the people in Jiangxi and the whole country, and the anti Qing upsurge was even higher.
