Mao Kui, Zi Wen, was born in Fuchuan, Zhaozhou (now Guangxi). During the reign of Chunyou in the Southern Song Dynasty, Ren Zhiji (now Sanya City, Hainan Province) was a member of Jiyang army. Yazhou was established in Song Dynasty, then changed to Jiyang army, and then restored to Yazhou in Ming Dynasty.
