Previous life
It is said that when the cave was first opened up, a pavilion was built here to worship Zhu Xi, a neo Confucianist. Because Zhu Xi tried to build Bailu cave in Lushan, Jiangxi Province, he named it Bailu cave. Later generations carved a white deer in the cave to beautify the legend. Therefore, it is said that the White Deer carries smoke and is listed as one of the "eight little sceneries" in Xiamen.
Bailudong was founded in the 44th year of Emperor Kangxi of Qing Dynasty (1704) in Jiashen.
According to the records of Xiamen, "there are many cliffs and rocks on the left and right sides of the white deer, with pavilions and trees in the middle. In the old days, there were Grand View Garden, wanzaidong and Jieyin pavilions. In the 28th year of the reign of Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty (1763 AD), Liuhe cave, Chaotian cave and Lianshan Pavilion were further developed. " On the left side of Bailudong temple, Yuping Academy was built in the early Qing Dynasty. There has always been a contradiction between Lingong Fanyu and academy school for land. In 1761, Bai Ying, Tongzhi of Xiamen coastal defense, once carried out the actions of "chasing monks, moving Buddha statues", "demolishing old houses and building lecture halls", which once destroyed the temple rock. Until Daoguang and Xianfeng years, the Academy shrank and declined, and the Buddhist temple was revived .
At the end of the Qing Dynasty and the beginning of the Republic of China, the temple was rebuilt and expanded by monk juebin. Hou juebin was appointed as the governor of Nanputuo temple and was succeeded by miaolian. After the founding of the people's Republic of China, in 1958, the army borrowed the temple and rebuilt it. In 1988, master Yuanguo, who lived in Hong Kong, raised funds to build and expand the halls and pavilions. He built new gold statues of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas and paved stone steps and stone railings. Decorated with pavilions and pavilions, the temple looks completely new. Now there are more than ten monks living in it. It looks like a solemn and grand Buddhist temple.
this life
Bailudong temple has gone through many vicissitudes and has been abandoned several times. Nowadays, because the steps in front of the temple are steep and staggered, and the guest hall is built for a long time, the foundation is loose, the walls are cracked, the beams and wood are eroded by termites, and there are hidden dangers in the house. The current abbot is Chang Xue mage.
