Xiamen Museum

Xiamen museum is located in Bagua building on the north slope of Bijiashan in the middle of Gulangyu Island. It is a comprehensive local museum with more than 1000 exhibits in five exhibition rooms, namely "Xiamen history", "special zone construction", "friendly exchanges", "collection of porcelain jade" and "sports stars". Because the round red roof of the building is unique and has the shape of eight trigrams, it is called eight trigrams building. Lin Heshou, the former owner of Bagua building, is the cousin of Lin Erjia, the former owner of Shuzhuang garden. It was founded in 1907. At present, the museum records Xiamen's historical changes and the construction process of the special economic zone, the development of Xiamen's sports, friendly exchanges, porcelain and jade, weapons and so on. The Chinese Military Museum has a permanent exhibition room here, displaying more than 2000 pieces of ancient weapons, including stone weapons of the Neolithic age, bronzes of 5000 years ago, treasure ships of Zheng He's voyages to the west, warships of Zheng Chenggong's recovery of Taiwan, as well as copper and iron weapons and firearms. Xiamen history: from the prosperous Tang Dynasty to the Opium War, it is divided into three parts: ancient, modern and modern. Xiamen museum was built in 1983 and officially opened to the public in 1988. The old museum was originally located in Bagua building on Gulangyu Island.

In June 2006, with the approval of the Organizational Committee of Xiamen municipal Party committee, Xiamen Zhenggong Memorial Hall and Xiamen cultural heritage protection center were merged into Xiamen Museum. Today, Xiamen Museum consists of Xiamen Museum main hall, Zhenggong memorial hall, Xiamen Special Economic Zone Memorial Hall, Xiamen cultural heritage protection center, Siming prison breaking struggle exhibition hall and Chen Huacheng Memorial Hall Chen Shengyuan's former residence consists of seven parts. It is a public institution owned by the whole people and managed by Xiamen Municipal Bureau of culture. It is a local comprehensive museum.

In 2007, the new museum was moved to Xiamen culture and Art Center, located at No. 95, TIYU Road, Siming District, Xiamen city. The building area of the new museum is 25300 square meters, the exhibition hall area is 9597 square meters, and the warehouse area is 2800 square meters. The building area of the new museum is six times larger than that of the old one.

Xiamen museum is also committed to the collection, protection, research and display of precious cultural relics on both sides of Fujian and Taiwan and handed down from generation to generation. It uses the museum's intuitive exhibits to publicize cultural relics policies, popularize cultural relics knowledge, carry forward the traditional culture of the Chinese nation and carry out patriotism education.

In September 2018, Xiamen museum was approved as a national second-class Museum by China Museum Association.

Development history

In 1983, Xiamen museum began to build.

On May 5, 1988, the Xiamen Museum officially opened. For the first time, four exhibitions, namely, Xiamen history, the construction of the special economic zone, friendly exchanges, and jade collection, were displayed, of which Xiamen history is the basic display.

On June 27, 2006, Zheng Chenggong Memorial Hall and Xiamen cultural heritage protection center were officially incorporated into Xiamen Museum.

In 2007, Xiamen Museum moved to Xiamen culture and Art Center.

Collection

Xiamen Museum has a collection of nearly 20000 cultural relics. There are ceramic ware, calligraphy and painting, ancient books and contract documents, jade, bronze, wood carving, stone carving, folk cultural relics, international friendship gifts, etc. about 2000 cultural relics above grade III have been identified < I (as of March 2014) < / I.

Organization setup

Office: responsible for assisting the library leaders to deal with the daily work, organize and coordinate the business work, organization setting and establishment, etc.

Exhibition and exchange department: responsible for the planning of Museum exhibition, annual exhibition plan and exhibition arrangement.

Publicity and education department: responsible for audience reception, explanation, exhibition promotion, audience organization and liaison, analysis of audience trends, collection and feedback of opinions and suggestions, etc.

Safekeeping and protection department: responsible for scientific management, protection, sorting, research and external services.

Cultural Relics Identification and collection department: responsible for assisting and cooperating with the customs, public security, industry and Commerce and other administrative law enforcement departments in the identification of cultural relics and involved cultural relics, and issuing cultural relics identification certificates.

Archaeology and research department: engaged in archaeological investigation, excavation and research, to find out the family background of Xiamen's historical and cultural heritage, especially to actively carry out archaeological rescue excavation and cultural relic protection in cooperation with the construction.

Published works

Xiamen Museum has published the works of the 10th anniversary of the founding of Xiamen Museum, research on ancient ceramics in South Fujian, collection of Xiamen Museum, book, fragrance, tea and flower exhibition of cultural relics on both sides of the Taiwan Strait, folk customs of South Fujian across Taiwan, cultural relics depicting the customs of both sides of the Taiwan Strait, and twilight afterglow porcelain collection of Cixi period in the Palace Museum And so on.

Zheng Chenggong memorial has published "Xiamen Zheng Chenggong Memorial", "historical relics of Zheng Chenggong", "three genealogies of Zheng Chenggong", "Zheng Chenggong regains Taiwan", "the final version of the sea experience" and "selected works of calligraphy and painting in the collection of Zheng Chenggong Memorial".

The Xiamen Special Economic Zone Memorial Hall and the cultural and historical materials Committee of the Huli District CPPCC jointly compiled the "graphic and historical materials of Xiamen Special Economic Zone" (internal materials).

Xiamen cultural heritage protection center published "Xiamen historical buildings" and so on. Foreign exchange

Xiamen Museum has launched the exchange exhibition of ink treasures between Fujian and Taiwan, which has been successively displayed in Turpan, Changji, Ningbo, Shijiazhuang, Langfang, Dongguan, Nanchang and other places.

In 2012, Xiamen Museum held a monthly academic lecture.

Opening Hours

Every Tuesday to Sunday 9:00-16:30 (stop entering at 16:00). It will be closed all day on Monday (except national holidays) and new year's Eve. In case of major activities or maintenance of important equipment and facilities, the museum can close individual pavilions or temporarily close as needed.
