Shanghai Drama Art Center was built on January 23, 1995. It is a combination of the former Shanghai People's Art Theater (founded in 1950) and Shanghai Youth Drama Troupe (founded in 1957). Shanghai People's Art Theatre and Shanghai Youth Drama Troupe were founded by famous dramatists Xia Yan, Huang zuolin and Xiong Foxi respectively in the early days of the founding of new China.
