Drum Tower Hall
Gulou hall is a Christian Church located in Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province. It was originally located at No.6 Bushi lane at the southeast foot of Wushan mountain in the south of Hangzhou City, and now it is located at Datong lane at the southeast foot of Wushan mountain.
Church History
Founded in 1885, it was not rebuilt into a Chinese palace style church until 1931. The North Presbyterian Church of the United States raised donations. Specifically, the American missionary wankeli (Chinese name) was responsible for the preparatory work. He entrusted Li Xiechang, a construction factory near Sishui Fangqiao in Huansha Road, to be responsible for the construction, and built a social service organization "Yimin society" attached to the church. The first Chinese priest was Ye Yunlong. During the Anti Japanese War, the church and "Yimin society" were occupied by the Japanese army.
After the victory of the Anti Japanese War, the church was restored, with Geng Zihua as pastor, and a sermon was set up at wangjiangmen, Zhongshan South Road. After liberation, the sermons were closed, and the houses of Yimin society were used by the health department in Shangcheng district.
In 1958, it was one of the reserved halls in Hangzhou. During the cultural revolution, the party stopped and Yongxin grocery store occupied the warehouse.
In 1979, Hangzhou Christian Church took back its own use. On September 23 of the same year, it officially resumed church service. It was one of the earliest churches opened in China after the "Cultural Revolution". It was also the first Christian Church in Hangzhou to resume religious activities. At the same time, it began to receive foreign guests. For example, on November 18, 1983, Taylor, President of the North South Presbyterian Association of the United States, and a group of four people came to visit the church. On November 15, 1988, an eight member delegation from the Christian Assembly of Asia came to visit the church, led by the director general, park Sheng lung. Therefore, it has a great influence at home and abroad. After the opening up, Zheng Mianyu, Chen Enfu and Du Haosheng successively served as chief priests. At present, the chief pastor Deng Fucun and eight staff members, including pastors Li Yuren, pan Xingwang and Li Zhaomei, often attend the service of about 1000 believers. In May 1998, due to the need of urban construction of Zhonghe viaduct, the original Drum Tower hall was demolished. The relocation and reconstruction of Gulou hall was officially started on December 26, 2002.
The back seat of Gulou hall is located in Datong lane at the southeast foot of Wushan mountain. It is adjacent to Zhonghe viaduct road in the East, Hu Xueyan's former residence in the southeast, the "Gulou" (formerly known as Chaotianmen) at the intersection of Zhongshan Road and Jiang Road in the south, and Qinghefang Historical District in the north.
