Guyue library is a place worthy of your admiration because it is the first public library in China. In the Qing Dynasty, the printing technology was backward, and books were still very valuable. Xu Shulan, the former owner, was an idle doctor in the Ministry of war. In 1902, he bought six cents per mu of land and spent 32962 yuan of money to build the ancient Yue library, which collected more than 70000 volumes of books and was officially opened to readers in 1904. After the completion of the library, it died, but the library benefited future generations. Even Mr. Cai Yuanpei was able to read extensively in the Guyue library because he lived nearby, and eventually became a great scholar.
