brief introduction
The pronunciation of "Jing" in "Jing De Tang" is similar to that of "Ji", which reflects that the master hopes that his posterity can accumulate virtue and do good. The host likes to plant bonsai. There is plenty of space in front of the main house, and a small wooden room is placed on the left side of the yard, which is equivalent to a greenhouse. In winter, the bonsai is placed in the room.
Huizhou people attach great importance to the construction of gatehouses. There is a saying that "thousand taels of gold gatehouses, four taels of houses". The ancients would rather spend thousand taels of gold to build gatehouses than just four taels of gold to build houses. It sounds exaggerated, but it can reflect that the gatehouse is a symbol of status.

The patterns carved on the wall have a lot of symbolic meanings. There is a fish in the corner of the building, with its head and tail, which means that it hopes that its descendants can take the lead. Below the fish is a picture of the four beauties of Meilan, Zhuju, Meilan, Zhuju. The four gentlemen of Meilan, Zhuju represent the indomitable will and noble quality. The four magpies are auspicious. Magpie ascends Meitu, taking the meaning of happiness. "Deer" is the homonym of "Lu" in the picture of East Deer and West horse. It is hoped that future generations will have enough food and clothing and live a rich life, while "horse" reflects the meaning of flourishing in their career. The picture of auspicious water animals at the bottom left and right corners of the gate tower shows two crucian carp jumping out of the water in the rolling waves, hoping to have a place in the officialdom.
There are six lotus doors on the East and west sides of the main hall, and there are five bats carved on the middle board, which means "five bats for longevity, ten thousand blessings and ten thousand walks". The East-West wing room is the bedroom for the master to rest. Copper coin patterns are carved on the upper floor of the window of the wing room, and ten thousand character patterns are carved on the breast board under the window, which means more wealth and more happiness.
Jingdetang uses the patio for ventilation and lighting. There is a piece of wood on the left and right sides under the patio. In the hot summer, the sun is very hot at home. The owner puts on an iron ring and a cloth curtain on the wooden strip to block the strong sun. There is a couplet in front of the hall: "determined not to change with the secular, pay attention to learn from the ancients.".
