Zhenfei Well
Zhenfei well is located in Zhenshun gate at the north end of ningshou palace in Beijing. It used to be an ordinary well in the palace. There is a stone on the top of Zhenfei well. Small holes are cut on both sides of the stone to put iron bars into it to lock.
In the 26th year of the reign of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty (1900), the Eight Allied forces attacked the capital. Empress Dowager Cixi and Emperor Guangxu fled West in a panic. Before leaving, Empress Dowager Cixi summoned Princess Zhenfei, who was confined in the north courtyard of jingqige, to yihexuan. She ordered eunuch Cui Yugui and others to push her into the well of Zhenshun gate and drown her. This well was named "Princess Zhenfei well".
In 1901, when luanqia returned to Beijing, Zhenfei was granted the title of imperial concubine. Her family was allowed to salvage her body and put it in Tiancun village in the western suburbs. Later, she was buried in Chongling imperial concubine's garden in the Western Mausoleum of the Qing Dynasty. After emperor Xuantong abdicated the throne in the late Qing Dynasty, Jinfei, the elder sister of Zhenfei, set up a memorial tablet in the east of Huaiyuan hall on the north side of the well.

history
In 1887, Emperor Guangxu was deterred by Empress Dowager Cixi and "chose" empress Longyu, Princess Jinyu and Princess Zhenfei. After that, he was estranged from empress Longyu, Empress Dowager Cixi's niece, but gradually fell in love with her who was kind, intelligent and smart. Because she sympathized with and supported Emperor Guangxu's political reform, she was favored by Emperor Guangxu and hated by Empress Dowager Xi.
In 1898, Empress Dowager Cixi failed the reform movement of 1898 with a conspiracy and once again monopolized power. Since then, Empress Dowager Cixi has confined her to the courtyard behind Jingqi Pavilion because she doesn't like her.
The cold palace where the princess was confined was in a small courtyard in the garden at the northeast corner of the palace. She was completely isolated from outsiders. She ate and drank under the supervision of the eunuch. The princess was losing weight day by day. Her sister Jinfei sometimes secretly sent some clothes or a few words, which made her feel a little warm.
In 1900, the Allied forces of the eight powers entered Beijing, and Empress Dowager Cixi fled to Xi'an with Emperor Guangxu, who had also been under house arrest. Before leaving, she did not forget to poison the princess. She ordered the second manager to release her from the courtyard behind Jingqi Pavilion, and ordered her to throw herself into the well on the pretext that she was young and foreigners came into the city to avoid being insulted.
The second manager came to the courtyard and handed down Empress Dowager Cixi's will to the princess. The princess refused to accept and went to the Empress Dowager Cixi to cry. Empress Dowager Cixi became angry and said, "throw her down to me!" The "life driving ghost" puts the princess around her waist and comes to the Babao Liuli well. The princess grabs the jade railing to death. She has no choice but to put her on the bare well and throw her head down. Cui Yugui is afraid that the princess will come up and finds a stone to throw down. After the affair, Empress Dowager Cixi went out of the Zhenshun gate and went to Xi'an.
origin
After the death of Princess Zhenfei, her body was soaked in the well for more than a year. Until the next year, after Xin Chou returned to Luan, Empress Dowager Cixi felt guilty and attributed her death to Cui Yugui's attempt to push her into the well. She was just angry at that time. He also ordered people to salvage the body of the princess and put it in the western suburb field, and then buried it in Chongling imperial palace. Jinfei set up a sign in the east of Huaiyuan hall to mourn. Later, this well was called Zhenfei well, which has been called up to now. There is a wellhead stone on the well and an iron bar lock in it. It is forbidden. It is still in good condition.
