Shanghai Yangpu Bridge is another self-designed and built cable-stayed bridge with double pylons and double cable planes crossing Huangpu River after Shanghai Nanpu Bridge. The total length of the bridge is 7658 meters, and the main bridge is 602 meters. On both sides of the tower, 32 pairs of steel cables are connected to the main beams, which are unfolded in fans, such as giant strings. It ranks first among the same type of cable-stayed bridges in the world. Comrade Deng Xiaoping personally wrote the name of the bridge. When he boarded the Yangpu Bridge at the age of 94, he said with emotion: "it's better to see today's road than to read the book of ten thousand years!"

Construction process

On May 1, 1991, the construction of Yangpu Bridge started.

Bridge location
Yangpu Bridge is located in Ningguo Road area to the north of Suzhou River in Shanghai, China. The whole section is Shanghai inner ring expressway. It starts from Shanghai inner ring elevated road in the north, crosses Huangpu River Waterway in the north, and ends at Zhangjiang interchange in the south. It is 5.3km away from Suzhou Estuary, 20.5km away from Wusongkou, and 11km away from upstream Nanpu Bridge in the West. Among them, the approach of Puxi Section of Yangpu Bridge runs along Ningguo road and Huangxing Road and crosses Yangshu After the intersection of Pu Road, Hangzhou Road, Shenyang Road, Pingliang Road, Hejian road and Changyang Road, it connects with the elevated inner ring road in Zhoujiazui; the approach bridge of Pudong section goes along the inner ring road, crosses Pudong Avenue, Qishan Road, Boshan road and Zhangyang Road, and connects with Yanggao Road through Luoshan Road interchange.

Design concept
In the design of the main tower of Yangpu Bridge, A-type composition is adopted, with the exception of excessive radian at the intersection of straight line and straight line; the top of the main tower column is a semicircular gap with a diameter of more than 10 meters, and the top of the tower is inclined, with obvious outline and succinct shape, which is like a soaring squid, fighting against the sky, implying that Pudong and Puxi echo each other, reflecting the new posture of Shanghai after the reform and opening up Out of Asia and into the world.
At the same time, the main bridge of Yangpu Bridge is like a rainbow across the Huangpu River. The main tower is like a sword piercing into the sky. The steel cables on both sides of the tower are fan-shaped, like giant strings, playing the sonata of the dragon's take-off.

Monitoring equipment
As of March 2013, the whole section of Yangpu Bridge has been equipped with electronic police and other traffic monitoring equipment.
Lighting facilities
As of July 2018, in order to welcome the China International Import Expo, Yangpu Bridge has completed the installation of landscape lamps at the end of August, and the lighting debugging has been carried out in September. After the completion of the project, Yangpu Bridge has different modes of landscape lighting in peacetime, holidays, late night, etc., showing its vigorous and upright posture at night.
Sightseeing facilities
Yangpu Bridge is equipped with a sightseeing elevator. Tourists can take the elevator from the ground to the main bridge surface and enjoy the scenery on both sides of the Pujiang River on the sightseeing sidewalks on both sides of the carriageway.

In February 2000, the Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Chinese people's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) submitted the proposal of "some suggestions on the negative effects of collecting river crossing fees and resolving contradictions"; in May of the same year, the Shanghai municipal government announced to cancel the fees for river crossing tunnels and bridges, including Yangpu Bridge.

Construction achievements
Technical problems
There is a biggest difference between Yangpu Bridge and Nanpu Bridge on the upper pylon. Nanpu Bridge adopts steel beam to make the forces of stay cables on both sides of pylon symmetrical and balanced. However, due to the large number of stay cables and the height limit, steel beam cannot be used for cable anchorage of Yangpu Bridge. To balance the pylon structure itself, the concrete wall of upper pylon must bear huge tensile stress due to the great tension of stay cables Prestress. In order to balance the two sides of prestress, the design initially adopted small arc bending reinforcement, which was improved to basically straight reinforcement arrangement through physical scale mold test. In addition, the process parameters were obtained through scale test, and a complete set of technologies, such as accurate cutting, neat cable weaving, special anchor plate and cable tension after buried pipe, were studied, so that the prestressed construction of cable anchorage zone exceeded the expected requirements of Yangpu University Bridge design and construction is a big problem.
