Chenyi square is located in the east of Nanjing East Road, Zhongshan East 1st Road, Bund of Shanghai. It was built in memory of Chen Yi, the first mayor of Shanghai in New China. Now it has become a tourist attraction in Shanghai, attracting many citizens to watch and enriching their night life.

Chen Yi square is located on the Bund of Nanjing East Road in Shanghai. In the center of the square stands a statue of Chen Yi, the first mayor of Shanghai in New China. A century ago, Chen Yi square was a bronze statue commemorating British governor Bashari.

Statue of Chen Yi
The statue of Chen Yi, cast in bronze, is 5.6 meters high, and its base is made of red polished granite, with a height of 3.5 meters. The statue reproduces the typical posture of Comrade Chen Yi when inspecting his work, showing his diligent public servant image and amiable and open-minded Confucian style. Every weekend, a grand square concert will be held in Chenyi square.
Yongquan in Chenyi square
Located on the Bund of East Nanjing Road, south of the statue of Chen Yi. Its shape is a modern fountain with square outside and oval inside. The water column spurts along with the sound, high and low at different times. A colorful light source is installed at the bottom of the pool. At night, with the change of light, all the water columns reflect red, yellow, blue and green beams, adding a magnificent night scene to the Bund.
Introduction card
According to reports, recently, tourists familiar with the Bund have made a new discovery: a life introduction board has been added beside the statue of Chen Yi, which has been standing on the Bund for 19 years and is also the most famous sculpture on the Bund. This billboard was just put up last weekend to let tourists know more about Marshal Chen Yi, the old mayor of Shanghai.
About Marshal Chen Yi
Chen Yi (August 26, 1901 - January 6, 1972), a famous Shijun, born in Lezhi, Sichuan Province, is an outstanding member of the Communist Party of China, a long tested and loyal communist fighter, a great proletarian revolutionist, politician, militarist, diplomat and poet, one of the founders and leaders of the people's Liberation Army, and one of the ten marshals of the people's Republic of China )The first mayor of Shanghai in New China.
Stampede accident
At about 23:35 on December 31, 2014, a crowd stampede occurred in Chenyi square on the Bund of Huangpu District, Shanghai, causing 36 deaths and 49 injuries. After the accident, a working group was set up in Shanghai overnight. Han Zheng and Yang Xiong asked to do a good job in rescuing the wounded and dealing with the aftermath. The cause of the accident is under investigation.

Xi Jinping instructed Shanghai the Bund stampede to make every effort to rescue the wounded and strengthen safety measures to ensure the safety of people's lives and property during the festival. Li Keqiang gave instructions on the handling of the incident, demanding that every effort be made to reduce casualties.
It is reported that 16 people were injured in Shanghai Long March Hospital, 13 in Shanghai First People's Hospital, 9 in Ruijin Hospital and 8 in Huangpu District People's hospital. Two minor wounded left by themselves.
