Mingyue Temple
Mingyue temple was built in 935 A.D. in the second year of the late Tang Dynasty. It was founded by Seng Zhizhi and merged into Puxian temple at the beginning of Ming Hongwu.
Mingyue temple is located in Mudu Town, Suzhou.
In the 16th year of the reign of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty (1890 AD), the roots of monks and Taoists were rebuilt. It was destroyed in the "Cultural Revolution" and restored and opened in 1993. There is a large pear forest near Mingyue temple. In early spring, "thousands of pear trees bloom" becomes a scene of the ancient town. In the Qing Dynasty, Li Guo had the saying "Lihua Mingyue temple, Fangcao MuNiu Temple", which was passed down for a time.
The architecture of Mingyue temple is quite unique. The layout of Tianwang hall, Daxiong hall and Sutra collection building is similar to lingyanshan temple. Enter the mountain gate and the heavenly king's hall, Da Du Maitreya is in harmony and sits in the middle. The four heavenly kings stand on both sides, one by one with eyebrows and eyes, and they are powerful and fierce.
The main hall is the center of the Mingyue temple complex, with five main halls and two-story cornices, solemn and magnificent. The center of the hall is dedicated to the Buddha, on both sides of which are Amitabha Buddha and pharmacist Buddha, collectively known as the "third Buddha". On the back of the Great Buddha, Guanyin Bodhisattva is worshipped, with lotus feet and willow branches in a pure bottle in hand, and his manner is reserved and quiet. On both sides of the hall are eighteen Arhats with different and lifelike expressions.
