Memorial Hall of Taihu guerrillas of the New Fourth Army
The memorial hall of Taihu guerrillas of the New Fourth Army is located in the north mountain of Chongshan village, Guangfu Town, Wuzhong District, Suzhou. The main project covers an area of 1700 square meters with a total investment of about 10 million. After nearly ten months of construction, it was officially completed and opened to the outside world.
The origin of Memorial Hall
In order to commemorate the 65th anniversary of the breakthrough of Taihu guerrillas of the New Fourth Army, the memorial hall of Taihu guerrillas of the New Fourth Army of Suzhou officially opened on February 4, 2010 in the beautiful Taihu mountain of Guangfu town. Chongshan used to be a small island in the West Taihu Lake of Guangfu Town, covering an area of less than 3 square kilometers. There are more than 100 farmers and fishermen living in Chongshan. It is located in a remote location and surrounded by lush reeds. It is one of the main camps of Taihu guerrillas. In 1944, the Taihu guerrillas of the New Fourth Army were besieged by the Japanese in Chongshan, a small island in Guangfu town. With the full help of the local people, they were able to get out of danger 20 days later. This is the famous "Chongshan siege".
Today, Mr. Xie Zhenlin, a veteran of the Taihu guerrillas of the New Fourth Army and a witness of the "Chongshan encirclement", tells the history of that year. Dating back to September 9, 1944, 55 Taihu guerrillas of the New Fourth Army, who had been persisting in guerrilla warfare on Chongshan island for a long time, were suddenly surrounded by more than 300 puppet troops in an attempt to put out the Anti Japanese forces in Taihu Lake area. In the case of few enemies, it took 20 days to break through.
To commemorate the soldiers of the New Fourth Army who died in the breakthrough, Suzhou built a memorial hall for the Taihu guerrillas of the New Fourth Army, and named it the city level patriotic education base, which will be open to the public free of charge from now on.
Three chapters of the memorial
The memorial hall is divided into three chapters, showing the tortuous process of the first construction, reconstruction and expansion of the Taihu Anti Japanese guerrilla detachment of the New Fourth Army. The museum not only displays the daily necessities, combat tools and letters used by the soldiers of the New Fourth Army, but also reproduces the reed marshes, communication ships and liaison stations during the Anti Japanese War, which makes people feel like they are back to the period of the New Fourth Army's Anti Japanese war.
