XiaoTaoYuan (Nanjing XiaoTaoYuan) generally refers to Xiaguan XiaoTaoYuan
XiaoTaoYuan is located outside the Yijiang gate of Xiaguan in Nanjing, at the foot of the wall of Mingcheng, across the street from Xiuqiu Park, facing the Qinhuai River, with beautiful scenery and quiet elegance. It is an open leisure green space. There are more than 20 varieties and thousands of peach flowers planted in the garden, such as flower peach, fruit peach, purple leaf peach, longevity peach and so on. XiaoTaoYuan is integrated with Shizishan, Xiuqiu Park, Yuejianglou and other scenic spots, and jointly writes the excellent culture of Xiaguan section of the Ming city wall.
In history, there were many different names for XiaoTaoYuan. In the Eastern Jin Dynasty, it was called "yingdanzhou"; later, it was changed to "sujunhu"; before the revolution of 1911, it was commonly known as hailingdi; in the early Republic of China, because some residents planted peach trees here, XiaoTaoYuan got its name.
According to the records of Southern Xuzhou, Sima Rui, emperor of the Yuan Dynasty of the Eastern Jin Dynasty, once landed near the shore when he went to the south. "The guests and the host welcomed each other and shouldered the burden on the side of the lake. Up to now, he is known as Yingdan Lake, which is also called yingdanzhou in the world." In the second year of Xianhe (327) of Jin Dynasty, Su Jun raised his army in Shitou, and Tao Kan and Du Li Yang cut his army in baishipi, so this place is also called Su Jun lake. Before the revolution of 1911, it was commonly known as hailingdi; at the beginning of the Republic of China, some residents planted peach trees here, so it is called XiaoTaoYuan.
During the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom, there were Jiangfang sentinels under the jurisdiction of Yifeng gate. There are three steles in this section of the city wall, which are "left boundary", "right army" and the middle, 85 cm long and 43 cm wide, recording the time of repairing the steles. It is suspected that the entrance of Nanjing was occupied by Taiping Army on March 19, 1853.
The water surface of XiaoTaoYuan and Xiuqiu park on the north side belong to the moat water body. The moat with a total length of 1000 meters and a width of 120 meters is the water landscape of XiaoTaoYuan, starting from Zhongshan North Road and reaching the outer Qinhuai River Dike in the south. Fish play on the river, wind ripples, willows on the bank, people at will, coupled with pavilions, waterside rockery, so that the small peach garden has a distinctive style of Jiangnan classical garden. In 2003, XiaoTaoYuan, covering an area of 300000 square meters, was opened to tourists for free.
