Historical evolution
According to the records of Yueling Guangyi · qiyueling by Yinyun of Nanliang, the hand-made Yunjin of Nanjing began in the late Eastern Jin Dynasty. After the development of song and Yuan Dynasties, its production scale and level reached its peak in Ming and Qing Dynasties. During the reign of Qing, Kang and Jia, the production of Nanjing brocade reached its peak. There were more than 30000 looms in the whole city, and there were many looms in the area of Qinhuai River.
With the collapse of the feudal dynasty, Nanjing Yunjin, as a royal tribute, gradually declined.

In 1957, with the approval of Jiangsu provincial government, Nanjing Yunjin Research Institute was established. It is the first arts and Crafts Research Institute in New China. As the only professional research institution of Yunjin in China, it undertakes the historical responsibility of inheriting and protecting Yunjin. On July 21, 2004, Nanjing Municipal Bureau of culture (cultural relics) officially approved the establishment of "Nanjing Yunjin Museum" with the approval of "Nanjing Wenzi (2004) No. 113" document. In the same year, Nanjing Yunjin museum was included in the list of "new 55 scenes of Nanjing" and "new 48 scenes of Jinling" jointly launched by Nanjing Bureau of landscape architecture and Nanjing daily and Jinling Evening News.
On December 23, 2004, the General Administration of quality supervision, inspection and Quarantine of the people's Republic of China (AQSIQ) announced to the public that "Nanjing Yunjin" was awarded the title of product with geographical origin. The exhibition hall of Yunjin Museum in Nanjing, China covers an area of more than 4300 square meters. The exhibits include nearly 1000 Yunjin cultural relics and related objects. In the Yunjin operation exhibition hall, there are 12 Yunjin traditional wood looms, also known as "oblique body jacquard loom". Each loom is 5.6 meters long, 1.4 meters wide and 4 meters high. It follows the silk weaving technology of the Ming Dynasty and is operated by two weavers. One of the weavers sits on the wood frame of the Hualou and is responsible for pulling the pattern.
